I just got my first Chinese Water Dragon. I've researched them a little bit and found that if they aren't green (mine is black) there is something wrong with them. At first she was black because she was scared. Then, she went to her normal greenish tone and stayed there for a couple of days. Now, she's black again. I can't figure out what's wrong. There hasn't been much commotion and she is eating well. Does anyone have any advice for me? It'd be appreciated very much.
What are you keeping him in? How is it setup inside? How big is he? What are you feeding him? What is her humidity? What are her temps at? How are you measuring them? There are many reasons a reptile may darken, some of which include stress due to external influences, sickness, improper temperatures, breeding activity, etc. If you give us more info we may be able to give you more insight
She's just a baby (probably a foot long including her tail). Umm... She's got a tank that's about 2 feet long and a foot wide. The temp. is at 75degrees and the humidity is 40%. One end has a rock and foliage. The other has a shallow bowl of what that she can get in and out of, a basking rock/cave.
also, she could be scared by people walking by the cage. covering the sides in newspaper about halfway up may make her more comfortable. this will also help with the nose rub issues so common to WDs
