A Very Exciting Hatching! **LOTS OF PICS!*

Before you read on further, first two things. No 1, if you do not like hybrids, then continue no further, and No 2, these are NOT FOR SALE.

First the story, I had wanted to see what baridi x corns looked like, as I hadn't seen pictures of what these animals looked like. So I decided that I would put my female bairdi with Vanan's ghost corn. (Of course it wasn't as simple as that, but I don't reveal my hybrid secrets!) I was able to get three seperate copulations out of them, which for some reason I don't have pics of, but hopefully I find them. Candi, my bairdi, laid 7 seven eggs, which we have been waiting two months to start pipping. Today, the first of the eggs slit and we could see noses. Later in the evening, one baby came out.

But first pics of the parents. Male ghost corn, Mahesh.

And Candi, the momma.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Kattia/Rats/bairdbod.jpg">

What we found this afternoon. We'd been checking the incubator at least three days a day as we were both VERY excited to see what would become of this cross.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Kattia/Corns/corndiegg.jpg">

A few hours later, we were able to see this.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Kattia/Corns/corndi.jpg">

Obviously one wild looking snake!!

The head is obvious corn influenced.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Kattia/Corns/corndihead.jpg">
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Kattia/Corns/corndineck.jpg">

The body is very bairdi like.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Kattia/Corns/corndibod.jpg">

They are also bairdi sized, these are BIG babies!
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Kattia/Corns/corndihand.jpg">

They are most unusually coloured. The interstitial skin is pinkish, the overall body colour is a nice light grey, the anterior is almost white, compared to the light grey of the posterior. Baby #1 showed a bit of fiestiness and actually bit Vanan and I!!

We are super excited to see how these guys develop. Baird's ratsnake go through a phenomenal change from baby to adult. We are hoping with the added corn influence to see more colour in the adult. As stated before, these animals are NFS.

In case someone asks. The reason why they are NFS is b/c once they are out of our hands, we can not control who they're with and what they might be bred with.

Only three of pipped of the seven eggs. Hopefully over the next few days the rest hatch out, but we were too excited to hold back. Been waiting for long enough!!

Thanks for all the compliments guys!!

Oh sorry, I keep saying bairdi which is the species name for Baird's ratsnakes.

I absolutely love hybrids, but I believe in responsibility. Thanks for keeping a level head.

Yep thats why I have no problem (but if I did it would be none of my business.)

Thanks again Katt for being so careful! I wish more breeders of Hybrids were like you!

Man I wouldnt mind breeding a Hybrid just for my keeping! Amazing!

Wow....
those are really something~
but I too am not really into hybrids...
it's a very nice thing that you're not selling these animals and are being responsible for making these hybrids.
You might be fully responsible for selling them out as hybrids, but you never know if the person that you sold to is nearly as responsible as you are and that might make the corn/baridi's gene pool a little messy no matter how much more you try to 'purify' it anymore~

So yeah great work and awesome looking snakes~~

Congrats Katt - know it has been a tough year for you in other clutches - glad that one you were hoping for has turned out for you.

Interesting babies and will be interesting to see what they end up like as adults,
