Doom 3 ready!!!
Almost. Everything except the video card. Time to update the old Athlon 1.4 GHz to a new system in time for the new game!!
Entire setup for under a $grand!! Including shipping and insurance! All that's left is the video card, which I'm sad to say Ian convinced me to get the geforce 6800-Ultra (for a paltry $800). My video card is going to be the same price as my entire system? Holy crap!
See you guys on Tuesday, provided my video card gets here in time!!

A64 has proven to have NO benefit in the world of the Doom 3 engine, plus, there are 3 different sockets for 64-bit processors, none of which are going to be the industry standard. AND, there isn't even a 64-bit operating system (Windows) out yet. Can't justify get a 64-bit system for another 8-14 months.

Awesome brother! Maybe I'll go and pick it up for you on Tuesday? heh heh......
Get Powerstrip and overclock that 9800pro to XT levels man! For sure!
If your motherboard can support an AMD Athlon 2800XP, it can support a mobile 2500XP. All a mobile CPU is is an unlocked barton. Meaning its at a very very low voltage and runs cooler than the desktop equivalent. So when you set the voltage to normal, you get a 3200XP, WITHOUT fail. Its really the only way to go.
Next week for sure man. As soon as we get our geforce 6800 ultra's, I'm there. I'm hoping it comes bundled with Far Cry as well.

Boo, just because there's no 64 bit version of Windows out doesn't mean there's no 64 bit operating systems around. There's been 64 bit operating systems since the 90's, and operating systems for amd64 since 2002. Although, you sure wouldn't want to be gaming on any of them. It's a damn shame that we're extending a crappy architecture from the 80's into the 21st century just because too many commericial developers can't be bothered to write portable code, while much better ones like MIPS and Alpha have fallen by the wayside. If it weren't for the monopolistic behaviour of companies like Microsoft and Intel, we could probably be running computers with twice the performance that we do today.

True true that Jeff. I still forget most people use Windows. :P

What's your operating system of choice marisa?
Personally, my favourite overall operating system is FreeBSD, which I have been using since 4.0, extensively for server purposes since 4.2, and extensively as a desktop the last year. If it weren't for games, I would have stopped using Windows completely by now.

Yes HHW the only reason it has taken us this long to completly eliminate windows is because of games.
Right now I am using Linux but my boyfriend is a fan of BSD and anything not WIndows.
