your female should be at least 1500 grams before breeding her. males can usually breed at about 600-700 grams. You can't really determine anything with length as far as i know.

It's not length you have to focus on; it's weight (and age). And also, just because a female is 1500 grams doesn't mean she can produce a viable clutch. If she is 38" and 1500 grams, that's great. If she is 50" and 1500 grams, she's way too slim (imo, anyway). As far as age goes, a male can be 9 months old, and 1,000 grams, but not be producing sperm yet.

Just something else to think about.

So ive still got a while Well I know my male is in or around 1 year of age. So if the female is the same size would I be right to assume she is around the same age? So would they be able to go next season?

Females grow much quicker than males. I have some two year old males who are the same size as most of my 10-14 month old females. It's all about weight. Weigh your balls and then you'll know if they're big enough to breed. If she is over 1500g then look at her and determine whether or not she is chunky, or lean. If you think she's chunky enough to be able to turn over 1/3 of her weight into eggs, and still be HEALTHY afterwards, then go for it.
