Gator attack in Florida

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/07/....ap/index.html

I wonder if they'll find anything abnormal during the necropsy. Whether they do or not, you can bet the media won't mention it, or how rare attacks actually are.

That's too bad. I feel so mixed about these kinds of attacks and how humans respond to them. I feel terrible for the woman but sad too that the alligator lost its life. People don't want to believe that there are predators out there and we are fair game to them. We have the brains to realize this and be careful where we put ourselves. Sad, our first reaction is 'kill it'. And how is that going to solve anything? Increase the amount of fear we have for these creatures?

I feel the same too for the Cougars in the West who have killed joggers and even for the coyotes who have been known to catch dogs and cats..... people need to be more educated and have more respect for all other life.

Yeah, it's a shame for the woman but I'd only hold it against the gator if he ambushed me in my bathtub.

Otherwise, standing in a pond like that, I'm in his space. And if he or she is feeling territorial, then what happens to me is a result of not being aware of my surroundings or just simple chance.

We need Rupert from Survivor to stand up for reptile owners across North America

THEY KILLED THE ALLIGATOR???? HOW STUPID ARE THEY! '' Ho no, the alligator is now a killer!! He is now a danger to society!!'' Big deal, the alligators are all killers, what should we do, slay them all? How stupid are they! Punishing a reptile is one of the dumest thing i have ever heard in my hole life... '' At least this one wont do it anymore...'' HAAAAA, then the other alligators will do the job! The alligator is doing the only thing it is supposed to do in this world : eat things that go near him. Hez not responsible of no crime, hes actually doing what his goal in life is!! Its sad for the woman, but she's not victim of an alligator, she's victim of life!!! Please dont kill any more animals for such pathethic reasons!!!

My question is, if the woman knew there was an aligator in the pond, what was she doing beside the alligators home/territory pruning bushes???

Actually in Miami/Dade county thier policy is if an alligator/croc is taken out of a public area (ie. pond, swimming pool) and it is over 4 ft. they kill it. They say it has something to do with the fact that the animal will find it's way back and at that size it poses a threat. Too bad for the animal. It was the woman's fault for not being more aware. What a way to learn.
