An up and coming project for next year

These are some Nicaraguans I originally bought from Boa mania as blood boas. They are not bloods but they are definately something different.

They display an amazing dark red coloration on thier sides, bellies and tails. They are actually getting redder with age.

I beleive them to be a form of hypo or hyper erythristic (increased red) form of Nicaraguan.

I hope they prove out as most hypo nics have proven out to be co dominant both in the U.S. and here in Canada (Stav)

Here are some pics

One of 3 females

These were all farm bred babies brought into the U.S. by Ben Seigal and then into Canada.

They are tough to photograph but will be on display at the upcoming Red Deer show in Aug.

The male should be ready to go this year and I will be attempting to breed him to some normal Nicaraguan females to prove out the genetics. The 3 females may have to wait until next year. These are truly tiny boas with the largest female being about 4 feet in length at around 2.5 years old.

Enjoy

Dan

They are amazing! There is a pic of a hypo nicaraguan on pg 57 of the april issue of reptiles magazine. Vin Russo works with them in the states. I've talked to him a few times he sure knows his stuff. He also know Ben very well and he may be familiar with these animals. He was familiar with the suposed San Andres because Ben tried to sell them to him maybe Ben tried to sell him these too. Who knows might be someone you might want to talk to if don't already know him.
Cheers,
Trevor

Dan these things are gorgeous! Even if they do not prove hypos they surely gonna make some killer erythristics if bred with a hypo. Even better if bred with pure centrals. Can you imagin pure super hypo centrals with that colouration? You are lucky to have them, I found 2 males in a batch of wc in Montreal last year ,very similar to those but they were close to dying and died shortly after first shot of antibiotics .

Wanna trade bloodlines? Just kiddin...I know you wouldent

Good luck with that project,
Stav

You never know Stav it might just happen, lets see how they prove out first.

If I prove them out as co dom next season the first thing I am doing the following year is breeding them to each other and into the hypos.

Trevor you are 100% right that is exactly why I think they are some form of hypo because when I looked on his site the pic of one of his hypo nics looks almost identical to one of my females. His seem lighter and pinker than others I have seen very similar to these. But I guess only time will tell.

I am pretty sure they are genetic as I have 4 of them and they all came from the same supplier. Generally when you see more than one of a certain mutation it turns out to be an inheritable trait.

You know how you might be able to capture their colours a bit better is with using traditional film. Digitals just don't get the colours right compared to film I find. I've often thought about taking a pic with a regular 35mm and then scaning it to see how it compares to the digital on screen.
Cheers,
Trevor
