turtle...with white neck?

i was just at my cottage and found a large snapping turtle( at leat i think its a snapping turtle)
when i took a good look at it i could see what looked like a white band on the back of its neck..is this normal?
i was thinking that it might have a laceration on the back of its neck..but im not sure
any thoughts?

Country:
Likely a female (since they are the sex most often encountered, especially this time of year), and what you saw was likely scar tissue from an amorous male - it sometimes looks like a white band, or zigzag, or any other pattern...
Cheers,
R
