telling the sex of mice (kinda urgent)
simpile question...how do you tell the sex of small mice. i just got 5 mice to k/f and i wanted to keep a female and a male to breed. the store told me that one was pregnant, but when i look AT "her", from what i know she looks like a him (judging from my hampster days males were PRETTY obvious...haha.) Anyways like i was saying the "pregnant female" looks like she got ........well "cahunez". help me out pleaze. Thanks.

Well the other way to tell is on boys the ***** is further from the anus than females. Far apart male...close together female. Hope this helps. by the way when you get good at telling the difference you will be able to tell on day olds. Good luck and have fun....Jamie/Blueeheeler

you may not be able to tell on young male mice because they haven't "dropped" yet (if they are like rats) or if they are scared/nervous....

None of my mice have huge packages. As Jamie suggested, the best way of sexing them is by the distance between their parts. Males will be signifcantly further. This can be done at almost all stages of life, but of course in really young babies it can be more difficult.

do not hold them by the tales to sex them. said package slips in and can result in a mistaken sexing

The distance between the genitals and the anus is definately a lot more on the males. When they are young, you can see nipples on the females.

ok guys, now i have a POSITIVE id on em, but heres another question, im down to 3 mice now, 1 bigger male and two smaller ones (1M, 1F) but they look like theyre from tha same batch. I def want to breed them, what do you suggest? i was gonna feed the sibling male and keep the larger male to breed with the sm female....Y/N?
BTW, thanks for all your insight on the sexing
