You can usually get a hovabator 1602 (what i was told was most economical and reliable) at your local reptile shop for a little over $130. I just found the exact same model on ebay brand new for $52 canadian. The guy seems to be selling them all the time. I have one coming for me in the mail right now. Hope this helps.

ED17: If you have one comming from Michigan, It is going to cost you more than you think. You package is going to be assigned to a broker at the border and they charge approx $40.00CAD. There is no way to avoid this cost. At least i don't think so. Add on the shipping cost and the stress and your pushing close to the same price. This is a problem most of us encounter when shipping in from the US.
Most feed and seed stores in canada carry hovabators.

You can build one very easily just do a search in the forum for the word incuator or check peoples galleries. But like Brian said you can get a hovabator at almost any farm supply store.
Cheers,
Trevor

Actually getting things over the border without being charged is pretty easy if you don't mind taking some risk. The risk being that if the item is damaged during shippment then you will lose your investment. There are 2 things you have to do...

1) Never use UPS to ship anything over the border. UPS automatically sends the package to a broker which charges you taxes plus a fee for expidating the package through customs for you. I really hate that UPS does this because I would prefer to save the service charge and just let it sit at customs but you don't get the choice.

2) Mark the price of the item less then what it is actually worth. Problem with that is that if the item is damaged or lost you will only get what you declared as a value for the item. As an example I had a $1000 diamond ring shipped from the US. The shipper declared it as a cubic zerconia and declared the value @ $40. I didn't have to pay any tax on the item. If the value of the item is below $75 - $100 9 times outta 10 you won't get charged tax on it.

I buy ALOT of reptile supplies off of ebay and have them shipped from the states.the incubator sells for 37.99us and shipping to canada is 25us. I have been in contact with this seller.with the exchange it works out to $85ish canadain and duty is usually paid untill the value of the item reaches $30. At the price of the incubator the duty should only be $8.50us. Unfortunetly they do not combine shipping so it would be $25 each no matter how many you buy. I saw the exact same unit in my local pet store for $245.

"and duty is usually NOT paid untill the value reaches $30"....... thats what i ment. This has been my experience and as i said i buy alot..I have gotten dragon food for 1.99 that costs 13.99 in stores here as well as 52inch snake tongs for 23.99 as well as much more. Much better than the price gouging at petland.

Hey Nathan,
i just recieved my hovabator 1602 in the mail (from ebay). it took about 5 days to get here from the US and is exactly what i expected. There was no duty charge from over the border, and the total cost was approximately $87 canadian. Hope this helps you out.
Take care,
Ed
