I was wondering if anybody knows if their is a UV light that comes in regular bulb form? If so where to buy it and manufacturer please?

The only UV light that i know to come in bulb form is blacklight. You can buy it from Edmund Scientifics. Donno if they are good for herps though.

Hey christina have you tried searching at big apple herp in their reptile lighting, They have Incandescent bulbs that produce UVA and UVB I think they are Mercury vapor, also bulbs that produce only UVA or UVB. The good Mercury Vapor lamps are expensive and I think you need a special fixture for them too. If you want more info let me know. Knowing what you need it for and what type of UV you need would also be helpful.

Well I want it for my turtle. I am concerned about uv for the winter time. I wont be able to take it outside like I do now. I have never heard of big apple herp where is it?

If you get one of the mercury vapor bulbs they put off alot of heat as well. So you need to make sure that there is enough space for a heat gradient.

If you go to canadian tire you can pick up a plant light. Thats what I use for the veilds. I know other peole who also use these also. Its a blue bulb

what do you feed your turtle? UVA and UVB are for sysntesing calcium, which snakes don;t need cause they eat whole animals, so if your turtle is eating fish, i don;t think it really needs the extra lamps, but if its eating veggies or insects, then it definately does, I use florescent daylamps on my my snake cages, not for the UV but for the accurate color rendition. its the closest thing to sunlight artifically, and animals and plants both look great under it

UVA doesn't have anything to do with Vitamin D delviery (to synthesize calcium), only UVB. UVA stimulates natural feeding behaviours and activity in diurnal species. Turtles require at least a UVA light......

I was looking for the same thing a while back but all I was suggested to use were those big powersun bulbs (mercury vapour bulbs) which arent suitable for small enclosures. Just recently I found a new light, its only 25 watts (equiv 75 watts though) and it output both UVA and UVB lighting. Screws into a normal socket. It is manufactured by ESU, it is in the shape of a corkscrew vs. the typical bulb shape. I think alot of the stores are beignnning to carry them now. I picked up mine at the sSNAKESs.com booth last show

I will be going to the next show I will pick one up there!
My turtle eats great but mainly turtle pellets, veggies/fruit and crickets. So I feel it is essential for her to have a UV light.
She is currently in a 30 gallon and soon to be put into something equivelant to a kiddie pool. I was thinking about purchasing one of those outside garden pool forms and put her in one of those.
Would definately make a great display for the snake room once we have retailers coming in.
