Butter, cream - now finally eggs!
The recipe is coming together at last - I think Sheila (retic chic) said with my previous post on this pair of corns - it sounds like one of grandma's recipes - mix butter and cream together --
now the eggs
20 good ones, no slugs - which is great for this first time butter female.
She looks much thinner and pretty tired - but a bit cleaner after a quick soak in her water dish and her reward of a rat pup!
This girl is one of the yellowest butter corns I have seen - has grown up gorgeous - many thanks to her breeder Annette (Wrapped up in Reptiles) and to Walter who sold her to me! Also many thanks to Ryan and Sheila for letting me have the male cream.
Really looking forward to these babies!
An interesting side note - this female was 15 days post shed and still hadn't shown signs of settling into her laybox - she was doing a lot of searching and 'squeeking' along the plastic with her nose as she tried to dig deeper. I had provided tubs half full of moist spagnum - Rich Z posted some pics on his forum of layboxes that were virtually full of moss- and the suggestion that a full lay box provides for a more secure site that some corns prefer. I topped this one up and she laid that night - maybe coincidence, but she did settle right down once she had a place to dig into - so might be worth considering.

So are the offspring going to be called "Cake Corns" or "Muffin Corns"

Thanks for kind words everyone - I love this pair!
Hey Mike - I like the name Muffin corns - keep on the food theme!
Brian - the creamsicle is genetically an amel - the butter is amel and caramel - likely a red based amel. These offspring will be het for caramel and will be amels. I doubt if they will show much of the creamsicle color influence - most of the cream X amel I have seen are the red creamsicle look, but indications from pure corns are that when amels are het for caramel they have background color that is brighter yellow. It will really be in the future generations that I can select for the yellow and orange - and develop the increased yellow I want in one strain of creams. Of course then it all has to be combined with the stripes and motelys to really get what I want - love genetics!!
If this butter girl recovers her condition well, I may double clutch her to my striped male this season - if not, then he is first in line next year.

Mousekilla - don't want to count my hatchlings before they actually hatch - but yes - I expect that some will be available. I will be keeping back a few but would really like to have some of these go to other breeders who will use them responsibly with full knowledge of the creamsicle intergrade issue.
I have really hesitated about what to do with the products of my creamsicle crosses. Most of my sales are through local reptile shows and I have an infosheet to go with every snake sold that explains how a creamsicle is different from a pure corn, I still worry that some of these that look like corns will find their way into other breeder's programs.
If you, or any other breeders out there are interested in working with creamsicles or great plains ratsnake crosses, drop me a PM. I would certainly be willing to work out sharing bloodlines for a minimal cost (through trades or just shipping costs).
