What too use on mites

All right everyone, It’s official, I have a boa with mites. Now I’d like too know what everybody uses too get rid of these things, I have been told nix, and it makes since that that would work. But does anybody use anything else??

What ever you use it has to treat the cage too where the mites lay their eggs. If the cages is not treated you'll never get rid of the mites.
I once used vapona but it is very dangerouse. It kills through chemical dehydration. I know some one that didn't follow my instructions and killed an albino burm using it. I told him to place it inside a container that even it was droped from the CN tower still would not open. When I returned to his shop he had in inside glad sandwich baggy. Then he put inside a Tim's coffee cup.
When used right it is effective because it treats the snake and the cage all at the same time. I personally feel that the risk out weigh the benifits. Anyway long story short it's a dangerouse chemical.
Ivermectine is a pesticide that a vet can inject into your snake. It works but does nothing to treat your cage. Personally I'm not big on having my snakes injected with a pesticide.
Provent-a-mite. Is a spray that if used properly is effective. It treats both cage and snake. It too can be dangerouse if not used properly. It's very expenzie to buy in Canada. I've only ever seen it once in a Canadian pet shop in Ontario and it was $50 a can.
Using Nix is like making home made provent-a-mite. It treats both cage and snake. I like it best because it's soap! Soap with a pesticide in it but when used on snakes it's diluted to a safe level.

Hey, I think I’ll stick with the Nix idea that was originally suggested too me,
BoidKeeper, I will be treating my female boa, and ball pythons cages. As for the male boa who actually has the mites his cage will be hitting the burn pile out back, and he gets a new one. I've been meaning too build him one out of melamine because the plywood one has cracked and I don’t believe the sealant worked well, and the young burm needs a size up from what he's in soon so I might as well do it now rather then fight with cleaning his cage (also plywood, although properly sealed) .

It might be wise to put him into a temporary enclosure until you are sure the mites are gone. You don't want to put him right into a new enclosure, only to infect that enclosure as well.

Rubbermaids are great for temporary enclosures. It will be very easy to clean and hard for mites to hide their eggs. When you do get the new enclosure, the rubbermaid will still be very usefull...and they are very affordable.

Actually, ivermectin can be diluted and sprayed on the snake and enclosure.
