male bit my female
i put my female in the males cage, and i had thought they bred about 4-5 weeks ago, but she still has an appetite, and no sign of eggs, so i thought i would put her back in with him. he turned to her slowly, then clamped down on her hiney and would not let go. and she was crying out in pain, so i picked him up and he released her, then i put her in her own cage. is this a mating ritual, or a problem? i would like to hear from those who breed a lot...thanks.

Its breeding, the male bites usualy what ever he can get, and works his way up to her neck (biting the whole way). So basicly you disrupted the mating lol. Dont be alarmed unless he is relentless and is biting her head or vital areas like legs and such.

put the male in the females cage next time it might not be as territorial.

It had nothing to do with anyone being territorial. That's what males do when they want to breed a female. They start by biting on the rear end (tail, leg, etc.) and then move their way forward until they have them by the nape of the neck.
Basically, you interupted their foreplay.
That's pretty normal. As for her "crying", she was probably just a little surprised at first.

I have to agree. I don't think I've ever bitten a girl on the butt to let her know I was interested.
Then again, he couldn't really send roses or buy her a drink.

he could try a nice smootch or at least walk up to her nicely instead of a butt munch. How Rude.

I remember the first time I introduced one of my males to a female. She was eating her babyfood. He licked her then walked on top of her dish and crapped in her babyfood!
