So there are good people in this world..
THE STATE (Columbia, S Carolina) 05 May 04 Young golfer reports gator abuse
Mount Pleasant, S.C. (AP): A teen participating in a golf tournament put aside his clubs and alerted authorities when he saw other players striking alligators with golf clubs.
"There was no way I was going to keep my mind on golf," said Jordan Kruse, 15. "It was so sick. No one should ever do that to an animal."
Kruse was competing last week for Trident Academy in the South Carolina Independent School Association state tournament at Fripp Island resort's Ocean Point course.
The teen saw two players from other schools approach a 6-foot alligator lounging on the bank of a pond. Kruse said one grabbed its tail and the other grabbed a 3-iron, smacking the reptile in the head so hard that it bent the club. The alligator fled into the water.
The players also approached a group of the reptiles and smacked the head of a small alligator in the water.
Kruse left the course and went for help. The state Department of Natural Resources sent an officer to investigate.
Efforts to capture the 6-foot alligator and check him for injuries were unsuccessful. The smaller alligator hasn't been found.
Charges had not been filed as of Wednesday. The maximum penalty for harassing the protected species is $500 and six months in jail.

That makes me deeply sad, I have always thought it sad the way that the general public treats herps and the way the law takes the seriousness of it. If 2 kids were beating a cat or dog they would be charged with animal cruelty and sent for counciling to see why they abuse animals, but it is accepted when it is a reptile. Things need to change but I am afraid they never will.

GREAT GUY! The only thing I would have done diff is go over and grab his 3 iron and smack him with the club to bend it back into place.

i live in edmonton alberta. I am 19 years old, i curently make 18.70 an hour, im an interior systems mechanic. i own 1 ball python, 2 crested geckos, 1 beardie, 2 red eye tree frogs, 1 painted frog, 2 pacman frogs, 2 red belly toads, 2 whites dumpies, and 2 cuban tree frogs. Now that you know my story. i have very understanding parents i live in their house, i pay their power bill plus 150 a month rent i know its not much but i do what i can. i treat all my herps with 100 percent of the best care i can offer. I was talking to a freind of mines mom and she told me she would never let her kids own a reptile in her house and the olny use she could see for them was death. It was hard i bit my tongue, but i did not say anything. Until tonight i never realized how anti-herp people are, it makes me sad, im sorry for babling, but if i seen a person beating a crock with a golf club, i would beat that person to death and feed him in chunks to the crock, im sorry but that doesnt olny make me sick it makes me angry, the human race, (most of it) is discusting, it makes me want to puke. ERRRRRRR!!!! that makes me MAD!!!

As with anything really, mainly the bad press is given. There are a lot of very decent people out there, but not many people care to notarize that. It doesn't sell, not many people care about the good. You know the same ol' speech that goes with only the bad press is given to the herp community.
What gets me is a fellow herp keeper who is for protecting reptiles yet, take pride and pleasure into killing food items, or shooting an animal just because "They" think it's problematic or the such. Amazing how many of us are hypocrites without even noticing..

Kind of sad. But there are still a few who care. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing(some cowboy movie).
