Question Reptile Relief...GOOD OR BAD?

Hey everyone, It's been an extremely long time since I've been on this site. I've been really busy I guess, not to mention the fact that my computer broke down because it was built by cavemen. But anyway, one of my snakes has mites and I have done everything under the sun to get rid of them in the past, so I thought of buying that new product that came out called Reptile Relief. Actually, I already bought it, being the idiot that I am and not asking if it was good or bad yet...so could anyone tell me about it now? Has anyone heard good reviews or bad reviews or is anyone currently using some on their snake? I've used a little bit once but that's it. SO if you could...please let me now asap what you know about it. Thanx so very very much everyone!

Much Love.

I bought a bottle about six months ago when my new corn snake had mites. I found it extremely effective against mites. In fact, one treatment and I didn't see another mite until months later on another new snake.

However - just anecdotal and NO idea if its related to Reptile Relief. The corn snake I put this on was a hatchling creamsicle who was perfectly normal in appearance and behavior at the time. The directions said it could be sprayed directly on the snake but as this was a hatchling, I was reluctant to do that, so instead I sprayed it on her paper towel and put her back in the enclosure. For the next two days, I thought I was going to lose her. She was very lethargic and barely moved. Finally she started to seem more energetic, shed and all seemed well. Several weeks later, I noticed that she was holding her head at a funny angle, a trait that worsened as the weeks went by. Then I noticed that she didn't seem to have much upper body control and would kind of flop around, whether she was in my hands or in her enclosure. She continued to eat vigorously. I took her to the vet who just suggested we "keep an eye on her" whatever that means!

She just shed again yesterday and is still eating enthusiastically and growing well. However, she is what I describe as "spastic". Her head is always at a 90 degree angle to the substrate (in fact, I almost took a photo of her this morning and if I had posted it here it would have looked like a photo of a dead snake as she was lying kind of coiled but with her head completely on the side), and she continues to have difficulty controlling her upper body.

Now - whether this is a genetic condition that this snake would have developed no matter what, or whether this is a result of the Reptile Relief treatment, I will probably never know. However, the next time I had to worry about mites, I used the dish soap method of treatment rather than the Reptile Relief, just to be on the safe side.

Make of this what you will

I have used it with success. Keep in mind though, it only kills the mites, NOT the eggs. So you need to apply it three times minimum (once every three days I think is what the directions are). Good luck!

We used it at work before, once and only once (for a reason). The stuff was absolutely awful. Says you can spray it on the snake, yet it carries all the typical cautions and warnings of any poison (ie- wear gloves, if contact with skin occurs yadda yadda, etc.). Hmmmm... if I can't get it on my skin, I'm not putting it on my snake! I had to wear a bandanna around my face because the minute I started spraying the enclosures down I was unable to breathe. Shortness of breath, coughing, etc. No good. The stuff gets two thumbs down from me

The situation described by Auskan sounds like a typical case of neurological damage caused by poison. If Reptile Relief can cause a full grown human to react badly, no doubt it would be so brutal on a hatchling that only weighs grams. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Linds come on now you're not a full grown human

But definitely that corn is messed up by that product. I would say don't use it.

This morning she was actually lying with her head 180 degrees to the substrate, so I took a pic, since it was on my mind from this post.
