The Importance of an Omnivorous Diet

Inspired by a post made sometime in this past week, I decided to open up this thread in hopes of an informed conversation. I am curious as to your educated opinions on the importance of vegetation in the diet of chameleons. Of course I understand that different species will ingest different amounts of vegetation, so we can even go species specific.

I feel any source of vegetation is scarcely available in the diet of captive chameleons, and am curious as to the long term effects of this, if any.
