breeding crickets

i go through about 1000 crickets in under a month, so ive been thinking aobut breeding them. does anyone have any good information about breeding crickets, or good websites that i can look on to get the information i need?

for anyone here that breeds crickets ---

1. is it hard?
2. does it take awhile for them to mate?
3. does it take awhile for the eggs to hatch?
4. how many eggs are laid at a time?
5. are there certain temperatures i should keep them at?

thanks

For the amount of hassle and time it would take for only 1000 crickets, you're probably better off getting them mail ordered in. Prices are pretty cheap in the US.

He's right!!

Been there tried that and its a real pain!! Even if I went through 1000 a week I'd probably just buy them for the prices you can get them for over there!!

Well if you still want to breed them just grab a male a few females throw them in a rubbermaid together add a sandwich sized rubbermaid add some damp top soil to it and the females will deposit there eggs in the soil. Then after a couple days take the container with soil and eggs out place a lid on it put on heat around 80-85 worked well for me and in about 9-14 days you should see some pin heads. Always make sure the soil is moist through out the hole process though. I hope i helped a little and good luck.

A male cricket has only two "Antennae" sticking out from their butts. A female has three, the middle one is used for depositing the eggs into the substrate.
Take care

Re: breeding crickets

1. is it hard?

Nope, you don't have to do anything

2. does it take awhile for them to mate?

nope, if you buy 24 large crix they're gravid guarenteed

3. does it take awhile for the eggs to hatch?

couple weeks if no heat source is available

4. how many eggs are laid at a time?

TONS! lol

5. are there certain temperatures i should keep them at?

nope, don't listen to the net, i've had mine at all temps and even had the peat moss too wet at one point and too dry at another.. they're not that sensitive...
