Help! I just bought a pair of agamas!

I did something a herp lover shouldn't do, I purchased an agama(I don't know what species it is) because I felt sorry for it. There was a tank of WC agamas(labled toad head agamas but they sure don't look like toad heads). The female is gravid she is bright orange red colour with a dorsal diamond pattern. She is only about 5inches long and quite lumpy with eggs. The male is dark (probably form stress) he has a purplish blue throat. They both resemble bearded dragons. There were at least 10 of these in a 15 gallon tank. There was no place for the gravid one to get away or a place to lay her eggs. I hope she doesn't die! They were very cheap only $20ea. I have the pair set up in a 20 gallon tank with a heat pad, florecent light and a basking light. Sand substrate, rocks to hide under and a piece of drift wood to bask. Can anyone give me some advice? I don't usually make purchases like this with out doing a ton of research first. I'm kind of mad at myself!

They wouldn't happen to be from Superpet would they? I got mine there and they were labelled as 'Sand Agama', Mozambique Agama, and Toad-head Agama... depending what store you were at. Have they seen the vet yet or at least had fecals done. Ours had coccidia and eventually the female (I'm guessing as no one knew for sure) died. The male on the other hand is doing great. If they are like mine (do you have any pics?) they are likely the Mozambique Agamas. Ours were identified via the internet by the 'expert' in South Africa. He is a colleague of the friend of our reptile vet (the friend is doing research in Africa). Don't know who the expert is by name hence the' '. Sand is good for the laying, but if they have coccidia... not so good.

Ours were also a spur of the moment purchase, but at least one has come out of it okay. If you want to e-mail me at hobotramp@sympatico.ca with any pics or info I'll see if they are the same and try to help if I can.

Hey there, from your post in the other thread it to me does appear to be a Mozambique Agama. To be frank, it does not look too healthy - it looks underfed and dehydrated. It likely has parasites, as well. Send me a PM and I can assist you. They are a semi-aboreal species, so they will appreciate logs and the like to climb, and a slightly elevated enclosure. Mossambica seek fairly high temperatures, and are found throughout South East Tanzania, Mozambique and adjacent parts of Zimbabwe.

What are your temperatures like? I would recommend separating them temporarily, and treating them accordingly. Offer a varied diet to ensure they are eating. I would get a fecal done, or just treat for parasites either way.
