Vet checkup?

Is it absolutely vital to take my new snake to the vet for a "well baby check"? I have a vet that deals with exotics, so if it is necessary, I can make an appointment tomorrow if need be (they are closed now).

I wouldn't bother - keep it on a simple substrate like paper towel until out of quarantine to observe for mites, ensure it is in the proper environment (temps and hides) and they are usually healthy. I would be more concerned about getting it settled in and feeding well first. You might take a stool sample to the vet to check for parasites but I don't see the value in a physical exam on a young corn that is feeding well and behaving normally.

Yeah, she is doing beautifully. She took her first pinky from me within seconds last Friday night. I have had her a week and 2 days on Wednesday and she has gone from sleeping a lot of my hand to being more active. I went out of town on Saturday morning for the March for Womens' Lives in Washington DC and she had the whole weekend to digest. She seems to be very happy. She was probably somewhat stressed when I first got her as most animals tend to be, but with me holding her all the time she got over the "stress" period quickly. She definately has no mites because when I put out a bowl of shallow water for her when she is out of her vivarium, there are no little black spots in the water.

I think that when I clean her vivarium, I will most likely try her with Carefresh or newspaper or paper towls. I can tell she is thriving. She seems so "happy" to see me each morning when I lift off her hidey rock. We spend quite q bit of time together during the day, which I find has been the best thing for her to get used to me is to be close with her from the get-go. I know it is suggested to leave the snake alone for two weeks but I just couldn't. We were pretty much bonded from day one. Anyway I am done talking now and am going to move onto another thread or two and head to bed. <3 Ani
