Egg Proofing plant pots

I was wondering what type of rocks I could use to cover up plant soil, so my girls don't lay in the pots? Also I am thinking of switching to paper towel...what is a good size tub for egg laying, and having moist soil for shedding?

As for egg proofing, I'm not sure. I would assume smooth, large pebbles would work. I use egg crate and newspaper, so I wouldn't be the best person to ask.

For next boxes, I use 4-6 quart rubbermaid tubs with a hide box or something in them to make the cresties feel that there's a safe place to bury their eggs. My next boxes are a lot larger than what most people use, but I also have a very low rate of eggs laid on the newspaper.

You could try using plastic-covered mesh for your pots, just cut it to size and secure it with something like river rocks. The mesh allows for proper airflow. I use hydroponics in the majority of my enclosures, but this method does seem to work when I use it.

My favorite thing for nest boxes, incubators, shipping etc. are those disposable Glad tupperware things. They are incredibly cheap, durable and escape proof. For a nest box just cut a hole in the top and you're in buisness.

I replaced my live plants with plastic for the breeding season. i've tried heavy, flat rocks... but the females still prefer to leave eggs next to the plant roots. I decided that my guys are more likely to hurt themselves by my preventitive measures, so out the plants came.
