how much USA$$ for a male?

i have two males and i think i would like to sell one to a local pet shop. the owner's reptiles all look awesome, and i know he knows his stuff, but how much do you think i can get for my male? he is about 8 months old, not super big, yet, but his colors are chocolate and Rust, i think he is considered a Harlequin. very pretty in color, but he is very jumpy, that is why i want to keep my other male, he is very tame. but this guy has never calmed down. he'd be great for making babies, but not as a pet.

If you're selling to a store, they'll only want to pay you wholesale value, not retail. So consider what you'd be willing to pay for him, figure 1/3 of that is roughly what you'd get for him. Another way to judge is to check what they're selling their cresties for, and take 1/3 of that. Most retail prices are 3 x the wholesale (though in some places it's only 2x wholesale).

they do not have Crestis, yet. this area does not seem to have any, so that is why i'm asking.

If he's looking for an adult male Crested, he's not going to get ANYONE to sell him one for 1/3 or whatever.

In order to get wholesale pricing, you have to buy animals that are available in wholesale lots. Adult animals are not...unless you're talking about crusty WC animals.

Depending on the looks of the male, you should be able to get anywhere from $40 to $150 for it. If it were a red, pinstripe, etc., you could get much more.

You have to remember, good looking males are in demand because you can produce 4-5 times as many babies with his genetics as you would with one female. On the other hand, average males are sold dirt cheap.

well, he is rust on his belly and up his sides, and he is like a chocolate on top. he has faint harlequin markings.

Without seeing a photo, there's no way I can be a good judge of what it's worth.

There is one thing I do know, though. I wouldn't sell a gecko for less, just because someone owns or works in a pet store.

The way I look at it is this. If I can get $100 for a gecko elsewhere, I don't care who they are, they're paying $100 or they're not getting my gecko. If it's a friend, I'm more inclined to help them out, but I'm not going to take less money, just so some store can turn a profit.

I agree, i'm not going to sell him very cheap. i'd rather keep him than sell him cheap.

have you ever bred an unhandleable male, and did the babies act that way, too? i just want to have tamer babies, i think.

Why do you need to handle him? You know he's healthy why not get him and energenic female? You never know he might calm don't after mating. I had an unhandleable male leo that turned very docile after mating. you could call it a release of tention, lol

b/c he is my pet as well, and i want to be able to handle him. I can handle my female and my other male, they are both very mellow. also my hatchling is handleable, too. he is the only one i cannot handle, and i really don't need two males to one female, so i am considering selling him.

I've noticed that males are skittish more often than females. I think they're just wired differently...kinda like humans.

I don't think it would have any effect on the babies. I've had docile adults produce nippy babies and flighty adults produce calm babies, etc.

Send me a picture of him. Actually, I need more nice males, so if you're in the US, I might be able to trade you some babies for him or something. I've got some killer Tigers that I'm getting ready to put on my available page. Just a thought.

ok, i went to your website and will send the photos there, i am bad at the computer so that is the only way i can do it right now. sorry. the photos are not in a good light, so hopefully you will be able to see his colors, but the photos muted the colors a little.
