Measuring feeder insects by weight...

Ok... so for larger lots (ie- 1000) of feeder bugs such as mealworms, I know many places measure them by weight. Does anyone know what the standard weights for the counts are? I have a large surplus of mealies that I really don't want to have to count individually

all i would do is count out ten 20 or even 100 then weight them and divide buy the number you counted to give you an adverage then multiple that number by 1000 or what ever you need

If nobody has this info do it by weighing 10, 25 or 50 with a gram postal scale or tripple beam and then simply multiply. The more you can stand counting out to start with, the higher the accuracy on larger counts.
This is how screws and other small things are packaged. Nobody counts out 1000.

However, cricket and mealworm packagers generally don't weigh them to pack them. They do it by mass, by putting a mark on their measuring container, then filling the container to that point repeatedly. This means counting out 100 or 500, but you only have to do it once to calibrate and mark your measuring cup.
In this case you get extra ones, if they are smaller than the ones first used for the calibration of the container, but nobody complains about that.
