This was posted on last september. What the law really is isn't restricting keeping, it's restricting the sales, purchasing, trading and change of ownership of animals.
If you do a search on Surry from this site you'll see that there's an extensive debate already done.
don't worry, you're only 6 months late on this one.

I repeat. they are not banned... they just can not be bought, sold, traded, given or taken within city limits. what does this mean? if you're in surry you have to go outside city limits to get your herps.... which isn't too hard, just cross scott road and you're in a different city.

what if you were to purchase your herps from a breeder out of B.C.? would you still be able to have it shipped to your door or would you have to pick it up from the airport or post office?

you would have to pick it up at the airport regardless as you can not mail live animals. you can not use fed ex, ups or any of the other courier companies either (not a good idea with our weather anyways). Fortunetly for Surry residents the airport is in Richmond.

UPS in canada does not deliver animals. UPS in the states has a policy against animals as well (except in special circumstances). whom ever shipped you the animal did it against UPS's policy.

the package said 'perishable item' and 'live animal' printed on the box so UPS might have changed their policy or you may need a license or permit now to ship animals. as long as the animal got here safe is all that matters to me.

Is there anything that we, as herp owners and lovers can do to stop the council from going ahead and passing these redundant laws?
Also, does anyone know if there is a website that will show me these bylaws? Not that it will stop me from owning herps, ever.
Thanks
Shane
