Was out looking for species of Nerodia at this one lake near my house. At the far end was a run off of the lake which went into a drain like housing, which lead to a wide ditch. I was heading back home with 5 Nerodia fasciata pictiventris and saw a juvenile gator letting the current of the lake running off into the drain carry it. I ran along side of the gator until i reached the drain. I ran around the drain and jumped in the ditch. I grabbed the little guy who was about 13-14 inches. I took my camera out to take pictures. I walked over to some shade with the gator in my hand still when i saw a dead gator on the waters edge. He was about the same size of the one i had now and was what looked to be gutted by a bird of some sort or raccoon. I walked somemore and saw another dead gator about 20 feet from the other. I decided to take this little gator to a pond at the end of my street at a nature preserve, because the lake he was in was more mud than water and dries up to just about nothing almost every summer. this gator is in the above picture.
