Why

WHY DO WE ASK HOW MUCH SOMEONE PAID FOR AN ANIMAL?
I FIND THIS A VERY RUDE QUESTION, most of us know the range of prices certain animals cost so you can just figure it out , if its an outstanding animal it probably cost them a pretty penny

now by all means i dont have a problem directing someone to the breeder or person that i got the animal from and if they feel like it they disclose the deal they made

the price is between the seller and buyer no need to ask how much an animal cost

sorry bout my rant but it just bugs me

Well you have to consider there will ALWAYS be new people in the field, and the site, and they are ignorant of the etiquite, and the industry, and are prone to ask questions. isnt that how you got where you are, by asking questions?

Well said, Snakehunter. I can see BoAddicts point, because I dont necessarily like it when people ask me how much something cost that I bought, but like you said, there are new people here all the time and they might just be asking because they really have no idea.

I don't think it's a matter of ignorance...although I've never asked anyone how much they paid for a particular animal, as a beginner, I have seen interesting specimens on this site that have sparked my interest and price is a serious concern as to whether or not I would wish to pursue research and potential acquisition of said specimen

personally, I usually try to find a similar specimen on ks classifieds or through an online dealer to figure out prices

perhaps those asking the questions are just beginners trying to find out if they'd be able to own one also?

Yeah, thats what I'm saying. Some people really dont know and so they ask to find out if maybe they can get one too. Its a legitimate question, in my opinion.

I really don't get it why people don't want to say how much they paid for something?!? I know I don't go and ask people but when someone asks me how much I paid for an animal or piece of equipment i'm glade to tell them. Whats the problem??? Why does it have to be a big secret?

Some individuals receive discounts due to years of dealings or friendship or some reason. If they say their price others may go expecting the dealer to provide prices such as that. It creates a whole lot of trouble in my opinion, especially when deals with individual customer have been made, for whatever reason.

well its pretty easy if you wish not to tell, jsut say you wish not to tell, in a good manner, then the person would back off. Im one of those people who asked how much it cost, cause i wanna know, its cause i dont know how much it cost to make a cage, the type of reptiles etc, you could also just give a price range. There are a lot of people coming to this site having questions in there mind. When i first came on this site i alway wonder how much a lot of things cost, i'll tell how much i get my stuff, this way it helps people. So they wont be over charged. this is in IMO. But if you wish not to tell, then ill back off. Some people dont like to tell cause by telling the price they wont enjoy what they got cause some people reminds them how much it was, i would be glad, cause i worked hard for the money and i desevered it, so i dont see the problem

ok too me its like me asking how much you weigh *sp* or how old you are or how much money you make

there are other ways of asking the question

such as how much does this animal usually go for ?

that is asking for a range, someone asks me how much i paid for my albino boa and i said $500 then they think it is the norm , i have put in my time to get what i get for what i get

that is my point

MIKE:

Yeah I know that feeling, I usually let them know market value and that is fair enough, my or anyone' s personal dealing with a seller or supplier or even breeder is private no matter what.

So anyways how much you pay for that albino and salmon, lol joking.

Cya....

y es,I agree with you two there, personal deals are understandable...but I dont' think there should be any hesitation to respond with common market value, since they would expect that anyways

maybe a better way of phrasing a question like that is

"What does a snake like that run?"
So the individual and put something like

400-800 (for pairs ,females , males whatever) instead of saying, how much did it cost.

i dont think asking how much an animal costed someone is being rude. if im interested in an animal im going to ask how much it is worth and how much it costed them. if people dont like the way i get information then so be it. its your opinion and i respect it.

i dont think it is rude. if you dont want to answer than just say "i dont feel comfortable answering that" or just tell them" well these snakes run fore---" that all you have to say.

It's not rude at all, it's a perfectly legitimate question. You can always decline to answer. People take questions too personally. If I ask how much something set you back, it's because I want to know what the seller is like, or what the market value is for a certain snake that I've never seen for sale before. Don't read into it so much, and you won't be offended.
