But seriously.. it totally depends on what you plan on taking pics of and where you're going to view them. If it's for website work only there is very little point in getting a high megapixel camera since posting 5mb images to the web doesn't work very well 
For general purpose I would go with a 2-3 megapixel camera with some sort of optical zoom. A macro function would be nice as well. I have a very old digicam that actually has a delay from when you press the button to when it takes a picture, very annoying. I doubt any currently available cameras do that but I would suggest checking that before you buy. Expect to pay between $150-$300 for such a camera depending on the actual size of the memory and if it's removeable or not. If the camera does not have removeable memory make sure it's at least got a USB connection and not serial. I would reccomend spending a little more and getting a camera with an upgradeable memory slot.
If you're looking at high end stuff that's a whole other ball of wax.

I totally agree. BUT definitely get one with the macro. You really need it. I think most of the digicams have this feature, anyway, so you don't have to look too hard to get it.

That would be my choice. Definitely one of the best cameras and at a relatively reasonable price. The key word being relatively.
If you are looking for an inexpensive (yet good quality) camera to post pics on the web...look at Canon's A60, A70, A80 or comparable models from other manufacturers.

Are you kidding me? Buddy, don't get your panties in a wad, I was only trying to indicate that he/she will find more information in the Photography section.
A simple analogy, try to keep up: someone walks up to a group of people and asks what the best digital camera is for x amount of dollars, the kids point out a Digital Camera store a couple of feet away and say that he/she might have better luck there. You're going to rag on the kids for that piece of advice? What a joke....
I have posted numerous times pertaining to this type of query and many of us do not wish to repeat ourselves, hence my recommendation to have a look in the Photography section.
Your original post was moved so I am obviously not the only one that believed it was in the wrong forum, no big deal. Perhaps you can't read, or perhaps you have an infantile intellect that prohibits your comprehension of where a post might belong, either way, how about you heed your own advice and keep your mouth shut....

I use a Pentax Optio S4, it is a 4.0 mega pixel. It can do web photos and print photos upto 10X15. It has all the functions of a large camera and is the size of a credit card. They run around $700.00 canadian depends where you go the price could be less. Also it has digital and optical zoom.(optical zoom is better than digital for clarity)

My sister has one of the Canon A##'s. cant remember exaclty which model but it is perfect for what she uses it for. Takes nice pics, and is nice and small and easy to bring with her wherever she goes. She uses it mostly for sharing pics with her friends and on the web and such. nice little camera.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: I use a Canon A70 and I love it. If the original poster has any specific questions about this model I would be happy to field them. If you have the extra money then you should pick up the Canon A80, it is just like the A70 but with a few more features (more pixels, swivel LCD etc). They're both great because of their AF lamps, optical zoom, manual features, video modes, picture quality (any pic you find on this site from me is taken with an A70), cost, etc. You can't beat these little cameras.

Sorry, about that folks I didnt even realize there was a photography forum or I would have looked there. What I would really like a digital camera for is for outdoor pictures, on fishing trips and for when I talk my dad into letting me get a boa. lol If that ever happens, but thanks for all your replies. I would like to spend around 200 300 no more then that>

I have the Canon A80 and I love it. Like Ryan said, it has the swivel LCD, which is really nice. You dont have to hold the camera at eye level to get a pic.
I havent got a chance to use it herping yet, but what I have used it for so far, it is really nice. It comes with a 32 MEG memory card, which holds about 16 pics or so. I bought a 256, and it holds about 114-120. Another good thing about it is that it has a very, very bright flash. I highly recommend this camera. I paid $400 US, but I have seen it for a little less on Ebay, if thats your kinda thing.
