Need Help On New Born Crested Geckos

have a new born crested gecko that hatched about 2 days. He's my first new born and I was wonderring if there's any special care and if there's anything I should do or need to know.

I also have an other baby that should be hatching soon and someone came over and decided to open it up . The person figured that because the other one hatch, that this one needed to also. Now he's in the egg and the top is half ripped. I personnaly think that the baby was better off left alone because I didn't have any problems with my first baby. I would like to know if this baby as a chance or if someone as any suggestions or advices on what to do???

Thanks

That's a tough one, generally if they don't hatch within a few days of each other the second usually doesn't make it. Whether it's ok to help one or both hatch is debatable, but from experience I can tell you that if you do open the egg the hatchling will respond (if it's still alive), if it does it should be removed immediately. Unfortunately I have a feeling that it's probably far worse off, or already gone after the shell was compromised. But look at it this way; if it couldn't hatch on it's own it obviously wasn't the type/quality of animal you want in the population... so as far as the big picture goes, everything worked out in the end. I'm glad to hear the other one is doing well. I'm sure everyone would love to see some pics of the little guy.

Just make sure the new baby has plenty of humidity (moreso than juvies and adults need) and that it doesn't have any stuck shed on it after it sheds. Other than that, babies are no different than adults.

About the other one that hasn't hatched yet, just leave it alone. Although it's not commonly heard of, the new Rhac book says that there have been reports of Crested Gecko eggs having as much as a 30 day gap between hatching.

Thank you!!
I have an other question to ask...for my 3 days old creskep gecko should I put him in a container with vermiculite? Is vermiculite dangerous for him? Or maybe should I simply put him on paper towel? I figured that with vermiculite, he's got humidity and some little heat.
I would like to have your suggestions or opinions.

paper towel would be fine, and as a bonus you don't have to worry about your crestie swallowing something it can't digest either.
