How much are Dart frogs in canada, and how easy are they to care for??? and what size enclosure do they need??? I have a empty 5 and 10 gallon tanks here with nothing in them and i was thinking about setting up a little terrarium in one of them with a few frogs...

dart frogs!!!
i have a trio of them.. i have suriam cobalt phase tincs.. darts frogs usually are like $60+ .. mostly like $60-150 for baby dart frogs. i and alot of dart frogs owners feel that dart frogs are easy to care for.. some people use a rule of 5 gallon per adult dart frogs.. but i have my 3 darts that are juvis in a 10 gallon tank.. you can get mantellas, some are nice and they cost less (like $30-50 each only) and they don't need the temp. as high as dart frogs, mantellas need temps of only really low 70s or mid 60s. while darts need it to be like high 70s to low 80s.. hope i helped.. if need more info.. just ask..

ok..umm..
do you have a false bottom for your tanks? some people have a hole on the bottom of the tank so that the excess water could come out.. but i don't.. so the water is always there.. umm.. you could make your enclosure this way.. have a false bottom.. then add gravel.. like 1 thick or so... then add spagum moss or peat moss or green sheet moss.. then add your live moss.. and you have your water bowl in there.. and you can either plant your plants in the ground or just have them in a pot and put the pot in so when you do clean the enclosure.. you can just take out the plants that which can get in your way.. umm.. for the top.. or lid whatever you wanna call it.. i just use a glass sheet that which keeps in the humidity.. but then i open it once in a couple days or so when i feed them or spray them..umm.. did i miss anything?

umm.. i also have a florescent light as lighting.. and i use a heat pad under the tank so it heats up the tank and stuff... also.. feeding mantellas are dart frogs is very easy and cheap.. all you have to do is breed fruit flies, that which i find very easy or you can feed the frogs crickets, pinheads, 1/8 or 1/4.. anythin else?

I've been looking at the care of Redeyed Tree frogs. Here is one of my bookmarks on false bottoms.
http://home.earthlink.net/~kenuy/falsebot.htm
If you want to have very little maintenance, it's a good idea to circulate the water. Adding a water fall would be very cool. This way, all you do is mist the entire enclosure as often as needed and all the crap gets filtered through the substrate and used by the plants. If it would only be two small frogs in a 10 (Whites need space) then you would only need to change the water every couple of months.
Understand that I haven't done this yet, but I've read...

ok...
yes you can have a water fall.. but then it could take up quite alot if space since it's only a five or ten gallon tank, my friend which is a dart frog breeder has his breeding tanks(15 gallons) have holes on the bottom so that the water can drain it when he sprays it.. but then the hole is like an inch in diameter. but then his tanks are custom made and the holes were drilled when they were made. you wanna make this set up to look all pretty and stuff right? a water fall would make it look nice but it would take up some space...

There are some pretty small pumps, like powerheads but yeah, once you put on any kind of filter then they get quite bulky. One problem I ran into is positioning the pump so it is easily accessible for cleaning.
Maybe a 15g would be better. That way you could keep 1.2 frogs. Heck, why not a 55g?!?

well..
well.. jeff only wanted to use his 5 or 10 gallon tank and not get another one.. if you wanna make a fall.. you can use a fluval 1! i was planning of manking one with them.. not exactly a fall.. but it will filter the water and spits the water right back to the top of the ground.. you can try that.. fluval ones are like $30 at pet shops..

Well i am going to buy a 33 gallon and slowly make it into a nice terrarium and then get a few frogs and some anoles and im going to make a spot so i can actually have a few fish floating around like take acrylic and aquarium sealant and seal off a front section and fill it with water so it can hold a few fish and filter it out and down a waterfall and back into the water... lol i dont know if any of that made sense but thats my vision

hey jeff...so do you plan on getting dartfrogs for ur 33 gallon tank? I know two dartfrog breeders ...mark pepper and ron jung. i am more familiar with ron and his pricing and his way of care and stuff. his prices are 70 and up i think. most of his dartfrogs are 3 mnths old when he sells them and most of them are around the $100 price range. he will have some green and black auratus soon that are $75 i believe. he also has some colbalts that are $100. but jeff, do you plan on getting darts? I'm not sure if dartfrogs and anoles are good together. dartfrogs need humidity of 80% or more. what kind of frogs are you looking for now then if not darts?

I saw some at the last Port Credit show but I can't remember who had them. If I remember right, they were CB and about $45. ($100 at SuperPet )

yup.. red eyed tree frogs are pretty nice.. yeah.. i'm pretty sure it was running for $45 at the show but if you intend on keeping anoles with them.. not sure if it would cause any conflict between them..
