with monitors, they often alternate. My pair have a seven or eight day mating frenzy period, during which they mate frequently (starts off with a few times an hour, then slows down to once an hour or so). The male seems to alternate sides. It may just come down to whichever the side the female happens to be on when he gets lucky.

The reason for two hemipenes is so that copulation can be easily done, regardless of whether the tail is tucked under from the right or the left.
During courtship, both male snakes and lizards, must get control of the female and stop her from moving. This is often done by neck or flank biting or simply chasing. This results is numerous swings from one side to another as they move along.
The hemipene that is generally used is the one which makes contact.
There are rightees and leftees however and some males tend to prefer one over the other.

I checked in here not knowing the discussion was on *****'s. My lizards are now mating and I was hoping I could find out some info on what to do if I end up with eggs. I really didn't know my male had two things to do it with. Anyway, I have uromasytx and I have no idea what to do now, if anyone cares to help me out please feel free, and if not please continue.

reptiguy, not all reptiles have hemipenes, just squamates (lizards, snakes and their kin). Crocodiles, for example, have a single *****.
