White Throat and Black Throat monitors

Was wondering who in Canada is breeding these (if any?)? Also, does anyone know if they will have any at the show. I don't think the odds are good there, I don't recall seeing many monitors before, but Ive never really looked either - never hurts to ask right? TY

I don't believe there is anyone in Canada breeding either of the species you have mentioned. I have seen a few Black Throats (farmed babies) for sale from time to time, but not as many White Throats.
I assume you are aware of the incedible size both these monitors attain, and the commitments involved in owning them.

Best of luck in your search,

JonK

PS - There should be a nice selection of Monitors at this show, and even more at the november show

Hello!!!

We have two White throated monitors at the zoo .. Dez and Sonia ... The male is about 5 feet long at around 30 pounds and female is about 4 and a half at give or take 25 pounds. Amazing animals .. some of my favorites at the zoo.

They have been introduced to each other for the first time this summer together. The male tried to breed but the female showed no interest. Our goal is not to breed animals at the zoo (we already receive too many each week) but if it happens it would defenetly be a nice plus!

I did not think they were that hard to come upon .. Now I fell special lol..

Take care
Dom

I was hoping to find a nice CB baby but I guess that is looking like a grim hope now

Jon,
I am not a newcomer to the hobby and am completely aware of the commitment involved in owning these animals. And due to the fact that these animals require alot of space, as much as I have been wanting one I am not getting one since my snakes are first and foremost in my life. I am very limited on space right now and have alot of animals already, I cannot afford to take away space from my snakes at the moment. Hopefully one day I will get a house so I can keep ONE whitethroat I am looking to find a whitethroat or blackthroat for a close friend of mine.

Dom,
They are sweet arent they. We have an 11 year old male at work. Just a joy to work with

I didn't mean to imply that you were a "newbie" but there is a lot of bad varanid information out there and just wanted to be sure you knew what you were asking about.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of finding a true captive bred White or Black Throat Monitor. There are quite a few up here and they surely aren't one of the more difficult species to breed, so all they need to do is fall into the hands of a ready/willing/able keeper

Best wishes,

JonK

so little is known about most monitors, its hard to say there is any correct or incorrect information...

out of all the monitors ive kept and keep (over 10 different kinds)
i find that my white throats, and black throat as well as savannahs are the easiest to care for providing you can give it space...
