Burrowing

Is it very common for a Columbian BCI to burrow when givin the oportunity? I have had mine for about 2 months now and he has just begun to leave his hide on a daily basis. I was misting his cage today and much to my suprise he was very well burrowed under the Repti-Bark I use for substrate (about 2") I had not seen where these snakes burrow like this, just wondering if it's normal. The cage is 4'x2'x17" The hide I'm using is a large log that he seems to like.

Yes young bci will burrow if given substrate that allows it. It is very normal. Ussually they will cover their entire body except for their head and lunge out for food at feeding time. Young bci also will climb a lot if given climbing branches. Many will perch and feed from this position. These behaviours are not talked about much and are fascinating to watch and be a part of. I think it makes raising boas more enjoyable when they are allowed to climb and burrow. I have also had neonate bci refuse food until they were given these options.

Yup, perfectly natural. I have 3 of my BCI on shredded aspen, and every single one of them does this:

It's so cute seeing a little boa head poking out of the substrate.

Invictus, your baby looks much like mine from that photo. Mine has one difference I can see from that pic, his widows peak gows all the way to his nose :P

Yeah my bci - Titan does that too.

I love seeing him like that. It's different. Someone also told me that they feel more secure. What ever works for my boy, works for me.
