Anyone know where I can get aspen shavings in BULK (I'm talking bail sized here), preferrably in the Calgary area?

Ken, RASCALS at 5610, 4th st NW between McKnight & 64th there somewheres has bails for approx $27 + GST. I just go to Petland Macleod Tr. & make them pricematch to up there. Any other PL will do it too if they stock the bails. Otherwise PL has them for like $50 or something, OUCH! Cheers Mark

Hey Ken,
Did you check out Petsmart? Also if you feel like driving out to Leduc you can get them at Canadian Lab Diets, they supply the Calgary zoo and university with bedding.

I would not recomend Petsmart. They have 1 staff member who makes the store very undesirable right off the hop (he is known to many), plus they refuse to carry any Snakes, Spiders etc. because they are DANGEROUS to the public LOL. I myself refuse to support those who don't support me or my causes. If anything we should drive to Rascals & support the "little guys". Mark I.

Call Lil Shaver just outside of Olds about a hour north of Calgary I Think it is $6.00 for a 8cubic foot bale. I have never bought from them , I use other stuff but it is worth the call to see.

Ok I just called L'il Shaver and it is $5.00 for a 3cibic foot compressed bale. I go to Calgary on a regular basis so I could deliver if needed.

Dean, is that for aspen? Real aspen?
That is cheap. We had gotten shavings from them, they met us 1/2 way. I liked the shavings we got (I thought it was pine), but did not know they made aspen shavings and/or chips.

You might find a UFA that sells aspen shavings for a 4 or 5cubic foot(cant remember) bag for about $6-7. I know leduc sells some.

Yep, UFA is where I go. I don't think you can find it cheaper.

The cheap prices mentioned above are for pine not Aspen. Does anyone actually know what a bale of ASPEN goes for at UFA. I know that they have the cheapest pine shavings etc., but what about Aspen. Lowell? I don't use it that much, but will go out of my way if it can be found cheap. Mark

Wow, thanks for the responses everyone! I was kinda thinking that UFA might have some, but $27 a bale at RASCALS sounds pretty cheap too... I pay $7 for a small-ish bag at Walmart, and it's just getting to be too much. I have reptiles in bulk, so now I have to start buying EVERYTHING in bulk, hehehehe. I'll call UFA and see if they can beat that price.

Haha, our last purchase of cypress mulch was a whole pallet worth. We had got extra, so we could send Don some, but we forgot to bring any to the Calgary show to have it taken back for him.
Oh, well, we've used 1/2 of it already - and at this rate, it won't last long.
