Green Pit Viper Bite

A very close friend of my brother was bitten and killed by a green pit viper when we were in Indonesia. He was wondering if I could find a place that sells them. Not because he wants one, but just out of curiosity. I don't know much about venomous snakes so I thought I'd ask you guys. Is there a website that sells them and how much do they cost? How common are they in captivity? Thanks for the info. If you would like to hear the story I would be happy to post it in another thread.

Green pit viper is a generic term for a vaiety of members of the genus trimeresurus; generally people are reffering to either albolabris or popeorum. The fact that the individual in question died is unusual as the bite is generally considered sub-leathal although certainly not to be taken lightly although a variety of factors could have been involved. As for availability almost any company which deals in venomous reptiles will probably carry some snake which could be called a green pit viper. They are a relatively common snake.

If you could describe the snake in more detail perhaps a more accurate determination of the specific species could be made.

Sorry about you brothers friend........ Like Cantil said it is unusual for death to occure after a bite from the two species listed above........ Could have been an alegic reaction to the venom....... I know a couple of people that have been bitten by popes with no ill effects....... Not even any tissue damage........ Just some swelling, tenderness, pain, and some black and blues....... You can buy just about any species of venomous snake from numerous dealers........ Indonesian pit vipers are very common and relativly cheap to perchase........ Maybe an exact locality of where the bite occuered would help to identify it also...... Again I am sorry for the lose......

I will explain how it happened in a new post. It might make more sense about why she died.
