... and then there's this kind of digging ...

First she digs a hole for the eggs. Then she hides her head in the peat, yet her back end is exposed, laying eggs for all the world to see. She's like an ostrich burying her head in the dirt. Something tells me she flunked out on 'Egg Hole Digging' in gecko school.

What gets me is she does this everytime, it never fails. The first time I thought she was dead, then for a while I was afraid she'd suffocate. Now, 5 years later, I just shrug and leave her to it, she obviously knows what she's doing. Strange, but it works, why reinvent the wheel?

lol, that's too funny. I bet everyone has some interesting egg stories, a while ago one of mine decided that she prefered the potted plant next to her cage... I left in the middle of an enclosure cleaning to get the phone and came back to this...

She's one of my holdbacks, and it's been so long since I got her parents (1996) that I can't even recall who the breeder was. Her parents came from 2 different breeders in the US, that's all I can remember.
I don't ship any of my animals, I don't feel comfy enough with shipping options here in Canada (though one day I might work up the guts). Call me super chicken, and I envy the people who do ship successfully.

Have you produced any other cresties that look like her?
Thanks

This is one of her daughters (sitting on a painting above her tank)

I can't find the picture of her clutch mate right now, but I'll keep looking.
They are from the only clutch that had both end up red fires. A few other clutches had red fires or tigers, but none of them had both hatchlings end up red.

Right now I have 1 more possible red fire from the female in the original picture, and 2 from the 2nd female (her daughter). Since they sometimes change colour the first year, I'll have to wait a few more months to see (and looks like all 3 could be girls )

I'll have a dozen or so at the show, but I can't say for sure yet if there will be any red ones. Some of them look like they will be red eventually, most of the time they look red, but as I said, they can still change drastically the first year or so. I'm pretty confident that one will be red, it's staying like that most of the time, and one brindle looks to be headed towards red too.
Sometime in the next week or so I'll be taking updated pictures of the babies and have the pictures in my album.

I love the hat! LOL
Can you really blame her for looking cranky? Bet she's trying to find the guy responsible for putting her through "that" .
She's got those amazing bronze metallic eyes. I love those!!

She lays her eggs the exact way yours does sometimes. Face in the dirt, butt in the air, eggs on top....

She always seems to go through a rough shed before laying eggs, too. Not always, but if she sheds before a clutch it never seems to be right. You can see it in these pictures. Humidity, diet, everything is fine....but shedding before laying always seems to go poorly for her.

Maybe if she didn't spend so much time face down in the dirt.... ;D

Another quick question, approx. how big should a crestie egg be when first layed?
Thanks
