Japalura care info??

I've tried the net and can seem to only find one care sheet. Does anyone know the care of these guys. Also what are they like to handle and how active are they??

Care information for Japaulras aka Calotes is near impossible to find. However, we use to have many of them at the pet store I used to work at, so I can give you the basics, but anything beyond that is pretty much impossible to find.

They are a diurnal lizard as far as I know, so they will be quite active during the day. Good idea to give them UVA/UVB lighting if they are diurnal. (I'm not 100% sure on this.) Keep the humidity moderately high - 70% is good for these guys. They are VERY active as babies, but don't show much aggression. I'd imagine they would calm down in no time.

They sound very neat. I saw one at the LPS and am trying to decide if I have enough room for yet another lizard! Any idea on the size they get to??

I did a Google search, but not one 'caresheet' site came up. However, there seem to be a lot of general info sites, discussion groups etc with info about them. You might just have to visit them and try to gather the info in bits and pieces.

One of the most important things with these lizards is to keep them cooler than other tropical lizards. Somewhere in the low to mid 70's is ideal with a hot spot. Also keep them humid. A little tougher to do with lower temps.....

I went back today after making room for one and they were all gone. Although I'm going to get one next time they come in. They are neat looking, active and docile (at least that's what I can gather from the info), just what I want. Thanks for those who helpped out. If I ever end up getting one I'll let you know.

Japalura splendida, the banana split lizard, tree agama, tree dragon or side striped agama are from Asia, or so I was told, and the guy I bought mine from said they are almost like rats, kind of a pest. I keep 1.0.1 (believed to be male) in an 85 gallon long aquarium, although they are arboreal, they just lounge around all day anyways. I have a 5 foot double UV fixture and two separate single UV fixtures, just normal UV bulbs from Canadian Tire. Heavily, heavily planted, lots of plants. They go mad for kingworms, which I dust every so often. I used to have a waterfall and stream in there but it kept on causing the roots to rot and I had to take it out, now I just mist them every couple of days. They also go crazy for those sowbugs, the little ones that roll up into a ball when you touch them, and they like stick bugs.

That's about all I can think of. One of my guys sits in the same spot for 3 days at a time, the other is always moving around. I've had them for about 3 years, they are probably about 5 years old, dunno how long they live, and haven't had any problems with them.

They are cool little guys, remind me of raptors.

They finally have some more in stock. I was wondering though, my tank the top is not totally covered, would that be ok?? I have one spot they could get out but it would have to climb the wall or jump like 3'.

I'd find a way to cover it. I've seen Japaluras jump quite far.

I was thinking of just replacing the screen, to cover the whole part. The way the cage is it has a open spot to put a heat lamp closer to the ground. I could just cover the whole thing whith screen and place the lamp a bit above that and then have a branch or something leading up to it.

I'm curious to know where you are getting these Japaluras from, and do you know if they are captive bred or wild caught? I've been looking high and low for true CBB Japaluras for some time, but have only come across WC ones, which I simply will not take my chances on.

I'm not sure if they are WC or not. It's from a pet store in town here. I could find out for you if you want. I'm guessing because they've gotten them in before they can agian.
