Reptile Prizes

Another unfortunate incident of herps being used as carnival trinkets.

http://www.marioncountyherp.org/classifieds.html

I get so irritated with these people who see living creatures merely as merchandise and keep them in the most minimal conditions to allow survival until they can be turned over for a few bucks.
In almost all cases the people who win them will have little idea or interest in keeping these creatures properly cared for.
If they did they wouldn't consider the fair a good place to get one.

My god, is that ever appalling. No matter how many horrifying stories of the mistreatment of animals that I hear, it still manages to turn my stomach just as much each time. Disgusting!

we see posts like this so often, why dont we all make a petition.. Its easy to say it wont do anything and this and that, but thats always an easy escape. Trying doesnt hurt, if anyone has some ideas, post em, maybe something can get going just out of this website. We have enough names to make a difference, or at least bring awareness to others.

I have an Idea it could work if we all give it our best shot as we all know sSnakeSs.com is one of the bigest reptile sites in Canada.
But we all have our own littel site or at least alot of us do if we were to make a petition and everyone were to post one there site to have it sighned now only the members of that site can sigh and to make us all look go we could make the same petition but only sign it once so if you signed it here dont sing it on any othe site then one a spesific date we taly up all the names and if all goes well all the members of just about any reptile site has signed and don't forget it goes fast a member on sSnakeSs startes one on his sit then a person on his site starts one on her site and so and so. And in 2-3 monts we tally it all up and it all ends here on the 31 march in the general discution forums and then it is printed and sent to whom it may consern.

Hey if we can get a 49 foot retic storry in every and all reptile site on the net we can pull this off

It's heartbreaking to look at animals and know they will not be alive for too much longer I'm curious, how this can even happen? For one, it the legailty of selling baby turtles... you wouldn't see any of those vendors openly selling crack at their booths... so hwo come the turtles, why don't they get busted? And how is it even still legal to offer reptiles, or any animals at all, as prizes in a fair? Especially since the ban on reptiles is being pressed due to irresponsible ownership? So troubling...

I've sent e-mails to both of the adresses on the site requesting more info on how to go about starting a petition against Interstate Amusements of America.
Has anyone here had any experience in starting an on-line petition against a business???
I've participated in one before but have no idea as how to start one.

I hate this Sh*t and I've tryed to do things about it before but i havent been able to because of lack of intrest on this and other forums. seems people are willing to complain about it but not do anything. if you can get enough people to sign or help out I'm all for helping out in whatever way I can. it would be much more possable with jeff and the ssnakess.com name backing us. Jeff?

There isn't enough ink in the world for petitions to stop every act of animal cruelty. I realize that animals don't have a voice of thier own, but if you we could just take care of the animals that we personally own, that would be a wondeful start. 'Every journey begins with but a single step'. I would like to see a petition to get children off of the streets, into warm shelters, and fed. Animals come later. (No offense to any animals out there). Curious to know what ever came of all of those petitions sent to "Fear Factor"?

Thats sad, I started crying. It's not just reptiles they do this to, I was at a carnivale where they had the "ball in cup" game but you would win a bunny! I think it was the same woman to! But I was very young I am probably wrong. lol

Fear Factor is terrible Mykee. I cant believe the crap they pull on that show. Since the last petition was made, thats going back awhile now isnt it? I've seen other snake episodes with the same, or worse treatment to the snakes. Unfortunatly its not very often that we have any success with a petition, but I guess I look at it as an attempt to make a change. At least an attempt was made, you know?
