breeding rat snakes

Hello everyone,

About a week ago, maybe more, I noticed that my "MALE" rat snakes were breeding...posted about it here...etc etc and was advised to separate them, which I did. It was also suggested to me that I put them together again after waiting a bit, so I did just now. Less than a minute later, they're at it again! It's much more peaceful-looking this time (so far) so is it safe to assume that one is in fact a female after all? And after they've disentangled themselves, I should separate them again right? Should I put them together again another day, or is twice enough???

Have you seen them copulate and be connected at their vent. If not they could both be males that are combatting. I would probe both to know what they are for sure. Also, if they are a breeding pair there is no need to seperate them but some people do. I would just leave them together and let them do their thing if they are not both males.

Well, they are definitely connected, that's for sure!!! And they have been both times.

AAAA, OK it just got violent again!!! This twisty, turny stuff they're doing is very stressful to a snake-mom....especially considering that it is taking place while one is still IN the other!!! Ok, as I was typing that the male stopped doing that cuddly thing where his head is next to the other snake's, and they separated.

Sorry to be such a nuisance, but this is all rather new to me!!

Hehe. Sit back, relax, grab a drinkand stay tuned for more snake-porn! Ratsnakes get pretty violent with their breeding antics. Wait til you see Kings breed. You'd swear the male's trying to chew her neck off!
