Baby Beardie

I just got a baby beardie and he is very spirited. I assume that is a good thing. How do I pick him up safely? Also how do I calm him down enought to trust me?? Constant handling?
thanks

when mine was small i stuck a finger under his chin and he would climb on. if you handle daily he will tend to stay with you for a bit but then decide to go and run off and explore.

I absoultly love baby beardies. Best thing to do would start with handfeeding (since he is so young) and rub his face and back everyday. I started this when my 2 were a month old. and i can still touch them ANYWHERE i want with out a worry of getting bit.

To pick him up at this stage i would slowly put my hand near his head but going underneath it, if he doesn't step up then you could swoop him up in your hands, making sure to support him at all times. I've found out beardies have to be completly supported or they don't feel comfortable at all. I would handly him daily for about 15 min. You can go longer as long as he's not stressing.

Jamie.

your baby is still a bit young to worry about tamming him. i think he is just a month old. but i guess as long as he is eatign and healthy im sure its fine.

It is never too early to start taming your dragon, unless it's just come out of it's egg.

At 2 months old, I would keep handling to a minimum, however, about 5-10 minutes a day would be fine.

Here's one taming trick, one of my favorites in fact....
Put on a dark shirt, if you don't like the feeling of sharp little claws in your stomach, put on TWO dark shirts. Then place the beardie in between the shirt and your stomach, or the two shirts. More than likely, when the dragon realizes he's in a dark place he'll calm down and fall asleep... and at the same time, get used to your smell.

Should work, let me know how things go! Good Luck!
