iguana movie

i saw in my reptiles magazine, theres a childrens book about iguanas that there going to turn into a movie. i see nothing but bad results from this. its good for children to get to learn about reptiles so they will learn that they arn't all mean animals that hurt. But now children are going to see this movie and what will they all want? pet iguanas. children can not care for iguanas, a good number of adults can't care for iguanas properly. theres going to be iguanas flooding reptile rescues and probably alot of deaths. plus the injury of people, iguanas can be very dangerous which most people know. i think iguanas were one the worst reptiles they could have picked. but that almost doesn't matter; the level of how easy they are to care for. alot of turtles are rather easy to care for, but back when ninja turtles were big, people were buying loads of them and mistreating them badly, and hundreds of them ended up in rescues. but i dont know, maybe that wont happen but i guess we'll have to wait and see

wow... this is just about the worst thing ever. I work at petsmart and you have no idea how many people ask for "nemo" (clownfish) because of the movie. we dont carry saltwater but my day isent complete unless at least ten people ask for nemo. this is going to cause a HUGE problem if what you say is true.

Let's not forget the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and what that did for poor turtles everywhere.

lol While they're at it just make a movie about some *sweet cute* african rock pythons.

Iguanas are abused enough. I can't imagine any good that will come from this movie.

I agree 100%. As much as I enjoy seeing different herp species represented in the mass media, the result is always the same. I too, came across a scene at a store recently where a little girl was badgering her mom to buy Nemo for her.

Geico insurance has people looking for Geico geckos everywhere. They have no idea what they're called, but they gotta have em. The same thing happened when the local telecom provider used grandis day geckos in their campaign. After Clearnet ran a series of ads featuring red eyed tree frogs, the stores stocked up and some even advertised on the tanks that they were "Clearnet Frogs"! I can't imagine the confusion when the new keepers took their frogs home and tried to find care info.

Just when the situation was beginning to improve, a movie like this will set captive iguanas back 10 years. Unfortunately, this flavor of the week mentality is all too common in this hobby.

Iguanans are an extra bad candidate for these situations I too, cannot foresee much good coming out of it. Igs are already "throwaway" pets... this is just adding fuel to the fire As much as I like seeing herps portrayed positively in the media, these particular types can do more harm than good, harming the hobby moreso in the long run...

I'd be surprised if the iguanas MADE IT to the reptile rescues before being fed wrong, housed improperly, not given UV and all the countless otherthings.

I have three iguanas that are rescues. One was caged so wrong, the cage had to be cut away from him. Another one was my grandons, who is only 4, but what do you know, it GREW and mama couldn't care for him.

hi,

i feel sorry for the iguanas, because they are never going to get held, because the kids will be to scared and they will never get any exercise!

yeah, i think this is going to really suck for the igs, i wish there were some way to stop either the movie from being made, because i dont think they'v started or to stop igs from being sold in pet stores, which i know of some stores have banned igs. but maybe we'll just have to sit and let it happen

this is from some of the article in the mag:
" the children's book, the iguana brothers: a tale of two lizads, is expected to hit the big screen as an animated feature by fox animation and blue sky studios."
"writen by tony johnston and illustrated by mark teague, the iguana brothers relates the exploits of tom and don, two saurian siblings living in mexico."
