Don't lend out your wheels... here's why
My brother-in-law had this car for 6 days before he let his buddy take it out for a rip to show his family. On his way to give the car back on that wet night he put a tire on the shoulder, oversteered then hit a deep ditch. The guy was fine but the car was found suspended 3 feet off the ground and pinned between a fence and a telephone pole. I laughed and laughed... then grabbed my camera to immortalize the event.

HI,
he'e gonna pay a deductable and his insurance is going up for a few years. I hope its totaled so they don't try and fix that frame..... geeze some friend.
One of my best friends in the service Father had lent his younger son the car he hit a drunk and his insurance went up for about 10 years. And he wasn't driving the car..
Geezee,,,, Doug

Oh yeah, she's a write off!lol! Have a look at this one from the front, there is no fixing this frame, it's shifted like 6" or so toward the passenger side. His buddy says he'll pay the deductable plus any increase in the brother-in-laws insurance but anyone would make all sorts of promises after totalling a week old $40,000 car. lol! Guess we'll see about that.

Guys 40 grand for a brand new car is NOT that much. (Regardless of it being a mini lol)
That sucks though! I can't believe that. Only a week having it huh? I wonder when it will be o.k. for his buddy to laugh about it! HAHAHA

hip,
yeah it was a while back, I have to use someone else's computer to unload my camera. On the other hand there is zero snow in Oshawa at the moment... I think it's snowed once this winter
Anyway yeah that Mini was worth about 40Gs, they can go lower or higher depending on whether you go for the bigger engine as this one had I think and other options. It's all not as bad as it sounds though because my brother-in-law works at BMW (so did I till the pricks fired me!lol!) and there is a huge employee discount especially on the previous year's left overs. They lease them to their employees super cheap for 15,000 km then sell it as a pre-owned. He has a new mini now and it's his 5th vehicle this year... he had a Beemer bike in the summer and also at least one 3 series... Not a bad deal but they're real A-holes to work for.

Poor little cooper! 40G is bang on for mid range on these babies. And to anyone who thinks it isn't worth it, you need to stick your head under that hood! That's one sweet ride....Too bad, I hope there's a funeral for that young'n.

i never let anybody drive my car, ive got too much money into it. and i also do not believe that that mini was worth 40grand. ive looked at the minis and the most expensive one you can buy from the dealership is like 28 grand. But im not into european cars, im more into the japanese imports. (rice burner for life lol) but i was told from the BMW dealership that the best and most expensive mini you can buy is around 28-30 grand. neat little cars though.

Ouch! That's why I want to drive a big solid truck, my odds and the truck's odds are much better at chancing minimal damage.

Sketchy,
You do realize that I'm talking Canadian dollars here right? The guy at the dealership may have been talking base prices too... there is the Mini Cooper and the Mini Cooper S. The S has the bigger engine and starts at a higher price point... As someone mentioned though, 40gs just isn't that much for a new car these days.
RedDragon,
I hear ya about the trucks but remember they tip and roll easier than a car. Look at the second pic. In the background are 2 trucks, the white one on the right has it's roof totally caved in right where your head would have been if you were driving and stood more than 5 feet tall. lol!
