Talking cage conflictions!

ok, so now im getting a pair of w. hognose! yeah

the only thing is if i want the two of them i have to use this 55 gal. aquarium. so im going to st it on its side, so its like a vision cage. to divide it im going to use plexiglass, black, so the two dont see each other. i am going to cement it in place with a bead of silicone on each side.

my q for u is, what type of silicone is reptile friendly?
thanx
-Jacob

All /any commerically available silicone is fine once it's set.
Get it in a tube at Home Depot or CDN tire...

I am going to have to disagree with this. Even those labelled as 100% silicone often contain additives to help prevent the growth of mold and mildew, and often continue to offgas ammonia long after it cures. You don't necessarily have to go with the often pricier sealants that are specifically made for aquariums, but it should be aquarium-safe.

For aquarium silicone, and virtually every other kind you can buy at most retail stores, what they off gas is not ammonia but acetic acid (vinegar, but concentrated). After they have cured for a few days (give it a week if you want to be extra cautious) they should be quite safe for reptiles.

I'll fit in between Linds and Roy, though- I would stay away from anything formulated for kitchen/bath use as these do contain antifungal compounds. Any other silicone should be fine. You will rarely find a caulking gun sized tube that says 'Aquarium Safe', but it is often exactly the same as the little hand-held ones that do say it.
