Talking Good PR for snakes!

Today was a good day. My BF works as maintenance supervisor of a large apartment complex and today was their Christmas party. While we were at the Christmas party the subject of our snakes came up and the apartment mgrs. son wanted to see them, his Mom said she was deathly afraid of snakes but she would bring him over to look at them.
To make a long story short, my abassador of snakes, my rescue Annie won them over and "Mom" ended up holding her and now says she would let her son have one. She said she didn't think snakes had any "personality" and Annie had proved her wrong You would just have to meet this snake to understand! Even if they don't end up with a snake, they now know they aren't as horrible as they thought and that is a good thing as far as I am concerned!

Same thing happened at my school, I have a snake as a class pet and you wouldn't believe how attitudes can change so quickly. He went from a disgusting thought to "can I hold him sometime?" or "let me know when he is going to eat next"

gotta love it!

My friends were kinda sketchy at first too, but now they don't seem to mind it. Even though i never let any of them handle any of my snakes, they seem interested about it.

Except for my mom, from day one she has ALWAYS hated snakes, she can't stand them. Fortunately i live by myself now and i don't hear the bitching as much, but whenever she does come over she bitches and moans about it... *sigh*

Good job tho, what kind of snake is Annie?

Annie is my BP that was brought into a local pet shop because her owner didn't want her anymore. She was very underweight, dehydrated and her eyes were looked bugged out and wrinkled because she had been retaining her eyecaps because of bad sheds. No one wanted this poor girl because she looked so bad, but I just had to have her so I traded the pet shop owner 40.00 in mice and brought her home. She looks so much better now that she is getting the right kind of care. I know people say that snakes don't like to be held, but someone forgot to tell Annie! If you stand by her cage she will continuously go back and forth, pushing at the top of the cage where you are until you leave or get her out. Getting her back in is more of a chore than getting her out. You can see a pic of her in my gallery, I just can't believe someone mistreated her like they did.

I guess you don't live in the kind of apartment building that has ridiculous pet rules. I personally wouldn't take the chance of letting the building managers even hear about my snakes but it seems you were lucky enough to get a positive reaction to your snake. Great rescue for sure!

MouseKilla- We don't live in one of the apartments although we do live in house that is owned by them. Unfortunately there is a no reptiles policy but it wasn't put in place by the apt mgr, it was the owners decision and I don't think they enforce it much. As long as there is no trouble or complaints and a person keeps quiet about their reptiles they don't say anything. There is also a breed ban on pit bulls in the apartment complex but we have one of those also, we just tell everyone she is a "boxer mix" The apt mgr. knows what she is but she loves her so she doesn't say anything. We get a lot of strange looks though.... "stupid people don't even know their dog is a pit bull" Ha,Ha! It is a shame that people have to misrepresent and hide their animals like that though.

"No Pet" clauses in leases are invalid in Ontario. One thing the government got right anyway. They can only prohibit one if it's dangerous or causes problems for other tenants. The Catch-22 is that they still ask about pets on the application, and will find a reason to deny you an apartment if they want to. They can also cancel your lease if you lie about it.
