roughneck

Just wondering...

what would be some substrate ideas for a black roughneck?

Use coconut bark (ground). good for cleaning, and moisture.

The type of substrate that would best suit your roughneck(s) can come in many shapes and forms, but is also influenced by what stage of life your monitor(s) are in.

If you are not in a situation where breeding/nesting is going to be an issue, there is a broader rage of substrates that can work.

Research the areas in which Roughnecks origionate. A lot of descriptive information often describes soil type/content.
Basically what you are looking for is a substrate that will hold humidity well and hold a burrow. As previously mentioned, it can become much more difficult than that once breeding/nesting enters the equasion.
