Go to ANY search engine, and type in: porphyre definition. You'll get hundreds of websites.

If my memory serves correctly, from my philosophy lessons, Porphyre is a neoplatonic philosopher (also known as Porphyry in English).
Cheers,

Well at dictionary.com it says it's a noun and then lists porphyry.
when i looked up porphyry it basicly said it was a rock with crystals. nothing about snakes.
