Albino Emory Rats

These are amazing snakes~
great temperment (plus I never hold them...no time..hahahah and still never bit me before...hahah)
the colors are absolutely nothing like the photos that I took. The camera that I am using sucks if you're talking about taking photos of these amazing looking albino emories~ Just one word to describe them....STUNNING!

Here are some photos taken on Sunday Nov 16th, 2003.

Great to see some photos of emorys Simon. Their saddle shape and general appearance is quite different from corns. Do you find they are shorter and stockier than your corns of the same age? They look to have quite a heavy body. Did you have a normal patterned one (het albino) I seem to recall from your photo site? If you could post pictures of that one too it would be great. There seems to be a bit of discussion of Great Plains Rats coloration on forum lately and it would be neat to see one that is confirmed GPR - I have an adult female that I purchased as GPR but still am not confident that this is what she is. I am assuming yours are from Don at SouthMountain - is anyone else producing the albinos in any numbers yet?

thanks for the photos - she looks great,

mary v.

Lizardmom,
yup. I was on the left hand side at the last show. Just facing the door~
glad that you like him (or her...don't know which one I sold you..haha)
Post some photos of him/her when you can. I would love to see my 'grand children' (or was it grand grand grand children...hahahah o well....too many generations have passed for my corn breedings...)
Very happy to hear that you like it~

Mary,
Oh yeah. THey look really different from corns. And you're absolutely correct. They are shorter and stockier than corns. The female shown above is a 2002 female and she's only 1.5 feet long (estimation) and she's fat! She's chomping down adult mice like theres no tomorrow.
I got all my albino emory rats and the normal emory rats het albinos from Don. But then this year he sold ALL the emory rats to another person already. So this year is the final year that he'll be producing any albino emories (well infact any emories) to us anymore.

I did have 1.1 emory het albinos before. but until last saturday (Nov 15th) the last 1.0 emory het albino died on me. The female died last year during my power loss in the middle of Christmas and my hatchling room and adult room were very close together...and made my female die. (Geeze...now thinking about it I think that my building has lost power so many times and killed so many of my snakes....I am going to write a complain letter...geeze...)

Anyway post your GPR.

Here is my female from last year (didn't take photos of the boy...he wasn't the best eater in the whole bunch...so didn't want to add stress to him by taking photos....so didn't do anything...and now he's dead....oh well..)

Emory het albino female:
Not the best shots since these were taken with my old camera...

Thanks Simon - very nice snake and too bad you lost them. Can really see the high saddle count as well as the distinct lateral blotches and certainly a suggestion of the reddish brown tones that they are supposed to have.

The female we have is coming back to me this weekend for brumation (I placed her with a friend as a pet but get her back for a shared clutch now that she is old enough) so I should get some photos this weekend. I haven't seen her except once briefly in the past 2 years - so will have a better idea of whether this is what she is once we get her back.

The albinos are very pretty with the yellow pattern and very white background. If you have a pair of the albinos you may be producing them in a year or two. I know of one other person who was looking at bringing in some albinos and maybe chocolates this year, but don't know if that worked out. Thanks for sharing the photos,

mary v.

Geez Simon, you've got pics of everything! That is a wild looking snake! I haven't seen too many of these things around but from what I have seen they are significantly heavier in the body than a corn snake. Mine is a pig at 4 - 4.5ft and 1200g. That would have to be some kind of a record if it were a corn.
