Anyone know this?
I'm looking for somewhere to buy flexwatt heat tape at a decent price. Does anyone know about how much it would cost to ship a roll of heat tape from the bean farm to BC? I don't want to get it in the US if it costs too much. Or, if anyone has some extra available, could you let me know? Thanks guys.

I wasn't quite sure which forum to put this under, so I just put it here. Sorry if it isn't supposed to be here.

it's not CSA approved, but you can still order from beanfarm.. Also, you can order it from www.portcreditpets.com and have it shipped from within Canada.. If you dont feel safe with the Heat Tape, there is always the option of using Heat Rope, which Grant also has available..

I beleive the only reason the tape wont pass here is because you have to make the connection your self... It has nothing to do with the tape itself, just the connecting of the plug! :P

Are there any major differences between heat tape and heat rope? Which would be better to use on a rack system?

I usually recommend tape or radient panels, as said tape is available to you, inexpensive and effective, BUT insurance for home or fire would get tossed is something did happen.

Yea, I'd like to know that too. Which is cheaper? I'm building a rack system, and if heat rope is cheaper and works, then I'll go for it. (Whichever works well that I can get cheaply from port credit pets)

I have even heard that the rope lights for party/christmas can keep a small enclosure up to ambient temps. Panels rule though but cost.

We are using the heat rope which is CSA approved, comes in a variety of lenghts and watts and has a plug in already attached. A single strand running under the tubs is keeping the back of our cornsnake tubs on the rack at 83 degrees when the room temp is about 72 degrees. This is with some reduction in power through a rheostat. Great stuff in my opinion - but a bit more costly than the heat tape - I just didn't feel too confident in wiring the heat tape myself and the heat rope (from Port Credit or Big Apple - not the heat cable from Can Tire used for melting ice or heating pipes) was nice becuase you can just string it along and plug it in,

I wouldn't put them in an enclosure though. I bought some to spruce up my porch and the package says that they have some element in them that can cause cancer. I think it was lead? I can't remember.

So would that mean if an electrician wired it, it would be CSA approved or are there some other concerns with it?

No, the product is not CSA certified, hiring an electrician will make no difference. In fact no intelligent electrician would touch it with a 10' pole, as installing non-CSA approved equipment can cost you your licence, and leave you legally vulnerable in the event of a fire.
