New rack
OK, so, I decided to build Mark Mandic's infamous "Eating Machine" rack for my ball pythons. I opted to use belly heat instead of back heat; this was hard. I only had 6 1/8" clearance between shelves, so there really was not much room for two adult hands to get in there to adhere the 11" heat tape w/ aluminum foil tape. Tricky tricky. 19' of heat tape, 1/2 litre of blood, 4 sheets of 5/8" black melamine, countless obscenities, 4 stitches, and 17 band-aids later, and here it is:
Here is a pic of the rack completed in place with the others:
And finally, a pic of my Helix in place above the shelves. It was a lot of work, but definitely worth it. Enjoy.

nice set up! I want to build some colubrid racks - it will be a reason to finally dig into the colubrid world!

how do you find the aluminum tape is holding?? With all the sliding in and out of the tubs, how long do you think it will be before the tape wears out?? I've been looking into ways of keeping the tape down without having to router out a spot for it to sit in and still allow for easy sliding.. Think you may have helped me here I guess its not a big job to replace the tape every couple months or whatever..

Very nice. My room will soon look like that too.
Cheers,
Trevor
PS
I'll be getting a sock mokey soon too! Can't wait. Do they eat them on their own or did you have to train him? lol

Trevor; good luck with that sock mokey (???). Seriously, you're getting a lab, or a chocolate lab? They are without a doubt, all biases aside, the BEST dogs ever. Send me a pic when you get him/her. my sock monkey, Willow (her) doesn't do anything with the socks, jsut sort of carries them around, showing them off. No holes in them, just really damp when she's done.
Matt; I route every other rack that I've made, but routing 11" wide by 17" long, could be quite tedious. I decided to use the aluminum tape instead on just tacks or electric tape. It's only been a week or so, but it's holding up really well. I don't feel it binding when I pull the racks in or out, and there is no wear yet. I would recommend it.
