I'm going to be on TV!!!
My father worked at our local TV station in North Bay for a while and has very tight connections. I was talking to him about what I could do PRIOR to openning up my business here to make myself more well known in the community. And he told me that we could give me a TV show dedicated to reptiles! Can you believe it?
I have to, however, plan how to make 28 minutes and 30 seconds of reptile talk interesting. I can also bring a video camera to places like Little Ray's and some of the Reptile Expos and do shots of them.
I think this will be really good. Also I contemplated doing some "how-to" shows. Like how to build your own custom enclosure. How to build an incubator. How to decorate your tank with things from home. Stuff like that.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
I'm so excited!
Jenn

MELLY: Haha yeah I'll invite you! *giggles*
I was honestly thinking about that though. Since I don't own EVERY herp, not even close. Like inviting some of my ssnakess.com friends to talk about one of THEIR herps. Like Joey with his Sav or you with your Ball.

I was thinking "Snake Appeal" but it would be all herps, and inverts and such.

I think you should look at doing some of it as educational by taking into account snakes found in Ontario. For example showing what a fox snake or milk snake looks like and explaining their importance and how to id them so people dont think they are rattlesnakes and kill them

Yea, some stuff like that would be good. And mabye talking about snakes are as pets, and the importance of getting captive bred animals. If you can expand the knowledge of reptiles, more people won't be afraid.
That's so crazy... hope you do a great job and have fun!

That's a really good idea about the native Ontario species. Like I'm going to do something special every week. First episode will be generally introducing people to snakes. And teaching the care and maintenance. Then I'm going to do special shows like how to build things, how to save money, do specials on certain animals, have guests. etc.
And of course I'll be pushing the CB thing

How about a demented reptile puppet show? You could have like a puppet show stage sort of thing and have people ducked down reading the dialogue and manipulating the animals, it would be hillarious if you had 2 or 3 cameras to work with. You wouldn't have to make it like a kids puppet show either, it would be more like a reptile theatre performance, you could do dramas (imagine lizard MacBeth or a snake musical lol!) comedies, whatever. The number of different sketches you could do would be as limitless as they would be stupid. LOL! Sounds like you could have a lot of fun with this... or I could... explains why no one offers me a TV show...

Congrats on the show!!! It'll give you the chance to show herps in a more positive light and maybe change peoples preconcieved ideas on them. Good luck with it.

Wow, congrats on the show! This is going to be a great oppurtunity not only for you, but for reptile awareness in general! Maybe some people just end up flipping to the channel and will be educated about reptiles, and join the wonderful world of reptiles
I've got some ideas for you if you want them:
-You could teach people about field herping and what it consists of (Catch, release, photographs, optional documentation).
-You could interview some of the Ontario reptile breeders, that would always be cool
-Reptile news
-Reptile of the week
-And don't forget turtles of course lol
Good luck with your program, Jenn! I hope everything goes smoothly
