Curing Edema

Sorry for my absence in the last little while, I have my hands full with family issues write now. I am just dropping a not that I think one of my dwarfs is on her way out. She has edema, and dispite changing the gutload, and cutting back heavily on supplements, it is progresivly getting worse. I talked to a friend, and he said that a vet cannot do anything, because it is not a bacterial thing, and no meds can help.
I dont know what do do

I have done all I can .. and if it continues over the next few weeks to get worse, I dont know what I should do

Well, are you sure it is Edema for starters? Edema shouldn't get that serious... It would depend on the cause... do you know it?

Vets can indeed work with edema depending on the cause. Kidney infections can cause edema and often respond well to antibiotics. Hypovitaminosis A can cause edema and is very treatable. Some forms of gout can be treated with allopurinol or colchicine. Sometimes even kidney calcifications can be treated with saline injections directly into the renal artery.

The problem is finding an experienced vet who knows what labs to draw and what to do with the abnormal findings.

I am 100% sure it is edema, and my best guess is because of old age. I bought her at 1 year of age, and now that she is nearly 2 years old, its getting on to that time

Ok what are her symtoms?
how long have they been there?

2 years is old for dwarf panthers but not that old they live longer in captivity they wont outlive a veild or most other species but im sure u can get 3 or 4 years out of them...

My sugestion is dont suplement her at all keep gutloading crix but with no suplements. does she have deposits in her neck or under her arms? if soo how bad??

My first cham (female panther) i had had slight edema just a bit of swelling under the arms, I only noticed it because i had read like mad and had just read a huge article on lt I stoped all suplemts for 3-4 weeks till I noticed the swelling go down and then started to ease her into suplements slowly. She eventually died of egg binding and im 100% sure if was because of the edema I could be wrong but that was over a year later. but she was very health over the following year or more...

I think that a vet would help u. If you can find one to take the time to see u and knows anything about reptiles (bad experiences with vets).

Well .. the good news is it hasnt gotten any worse since my last post, and the bad news is it hasnt gotten any better ...
