lid help needed

I just got a 30L tank for my BP and after getting it and cleaning it out found out that the edging on the top is slightly loose and too far down for clamps to lock on to. I unfornately already bought a lid that fits the top but am wondering if anyone has some suggestions has for how to modify it so that it will stay. and also how to reseal the top edging? Please help was really hoping to get my BP in the new tank sometime soon (like this week or two)Thanks for helping out though.

Place a heavy object on either side of the lid. Just make sure it's not too heavy and won't break the lid! Is it a screen top?

If you have heat lamps that have clamps you can use those to keep it in place.

unfornately yes it is a screen top because I thought that was what I was going to need. As for clamping I don't think that would work there is nothing for them to clamp on to.

Bungee cord. The same kind that is used to keep car trunks closed when something is protruding out the back of the trunk.. ya know?

You can use silicone to reseal the top

Yes as you can see bungee cords work well.

thanks for the ideas I would end up with more floor room with it on its side would I?like the look of the bungee cord holding the screen on. Simply yet effective.

when set on side what is the best way to heat it? I have a heat wave would that still work?Also using a heat lamp how would I set these up with it on its side? What type of substrate works well with a tank on its side?

Stick the heat wave underneath (the side facing down). I wouldn't bother with a heat lamp for a ball python as they do better with belly heat.

hey that cage set up looks really neat! But I keep hearing how the screen tops won't keep in the humidity for the snake, so how would you keep the humidity in, in a set up like that?

Nicole, its true it is hard to keep the humidity up in enclosures with a screen top or side. To keep the humidity up you would have to mist often. (one option) My vote for an enclosure is always a RUBBERMAID!! Nice job TannimBP!

What I do in mine is I have their water dish where they drink and I put a larger container where they can bask in it right over the uth. It goves them the humidity they need and the water is warm when they bask in it so they will often defecate in it at the same time, less cleanup in the end.

I'd just mist the tank often, ,,, the water dish over the UTH is a bad idea from my experience, if the water dish gets knocked over there is a chance that the bottom of the aquarium will crack! Not good for the wallet or the safety of the animal... Try using a bedding that holds a bit more humidity as well. What are you using now?

A tank will not crack from water being spilled unless the UTH is waaaaaay too hot. A scorched snake is more serious than a cracked tank. Frequent misting isn't an ideal fix for many species either. Frequent mistings create a damp environment, which some species require high humidity but a dry environment or can develop skin conditions such as scale rot.
